Description

This is a lovely useable example of the most desirable iteration of a great classic. It is a 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk.III BJ8. These last models have wind up windows and a proper folding hood and were the most developed of the line. Our car is a Right Hand Drive version, Although it started its life as a USA LHD Export, as most of them did. It is finished is the best colour scheme of Healey Blue over Cream with Blue Interior, is Taxed and Mot'd and ready for its next home.
The final and the best development of the Austin Healey 100/3000 range, the 3000 MkIII arrived in 1964, some 11 years after the first Healey 100 had been unveiled to a rapturous reception from press and public alike. By now a thoroughly sorted sportscar with all the early niggles attended to, it was a better car in all respects than its charismatic predecessors. The MkIII now had even more power (150bhp) and a much more civilized interior compared to earlier models. Known internally as the BJ8, the standard mechanical equipment now included a brake servo, bigger front brake discs, strengthened splined hubs and twin trailing arms for the rear suspension for the post-May 1964 MkIII Phase 2 which improved handling and gave the car much-needed extra ground clearance. The extra power came courtesy of a new camshaft and uprated valve springs, breathing being further enhanced through a new exhaust system and twin 2” SU carburettors. The most obvious changes appeared inside, including a wood veneered dashboard, a centre console/gear surround and better seats. Production finally ceased in late 1967 by which time some 17,712 MkIIIs had been produced.
As the accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms, this last-of-the-line MkIII Phase 2 was built in late November 1966 for the American export market and was originally British Racing Green with black trim, wire wheels, overdrive, a heater and an adjustable steering column. . Shortly after arrival here the car was converted to right-hand drive and treated to a thorough overhaul which included: new fuel tank and petrol pump; cylinder head overhaul; new engine mountings; steering box and idler overhaul; new exhaust; new heater trunking; new windscreen washer pump; new tyres; new walnut dash and new carpets.
We sold the car to its previous owner who then embarked on a series of improvements in the last two years, spending in the region of a further £8,000. These included a new Mohair Soft top, conversion to New Triple Weber DCOE45 Carbs, and many other service items. The car comes with sundry invoices for the work carried out since arrival , it also has a NOVA reference, US Certificate of Title, import papers, Heritage Certificate and has a V5C . The car has currently been De-Bumpered for a more Rally look but the bumpers come with the car, With the prices of these car moving upwards, these last cars are getting improved and restored all the time and regularly fetch £75k and upwards, so it is nice to find a clean useable daily driver that you can use and improve, but for a reasonable price also. The perfect model in the perfect colours, there is not another at this price point in the market we could see.
