Description

Up for sale is my 1950 Bentley mark IV this car is a great example of a 1950 Bentley that you can get in and enjoy as soon as it makes its way to its new home. This is a great driver Quality Car. It was painted with base coat clear coat a couple years ago and looks very presentable. The body is solid and the tires are only a few years old. It has always taken Best in Show or some type of trophy when brought to the local car cruise-in. The motor and transmission in this car are original to it and are in fabulous condition. With just a turn of a key it's off and ready to go! Just recently the carburetors were rebuilt and I put a new radiator in it. All mechanical features in this car are working as they should. ( This includes the suspension adjustment and the carburetor adjustments on the steering wheel along with the mechanical turn signal indicator arms). All window glass is in great shape and all the windows glide up and down easily. This car has been a blast to own and it has a lot of life left in it, it's ready to make memories for years to come.
The only thing I can knock it for is: Currently the sunroof is not operational it's shuts and seals up well but does not roll back. There is also a aluminum fuel cell in the trunk. I have the original gas tank but it leaks and will need to be repaired and i am missing the window crank on the drivers side door. I also have many extra parts for this car that I will box up and include with the sale, including the original air cleaner, heater parts and antenna.
TO THE HIGH BIDDER: I will only accept cash in person OR a bank money wire transfer, if you choose to ship the car. There will be a PayPal deposit of $500 due within 24 hours of the auction close. If I do not receive my deposit in a timely manner I will reserve the right to re-post the car or go to the next person in line. If you choose to have the car shipped you are responsible for picking the shipping company ,but I am happy to help the company load the car and get it sent off to its new loving home.
For those of you not up to speed on the history of this car here is a interesting article:
The Bentley Mark VI is an automobile from Bentley which was produced from 1946 to 1952.
The Mark VI 4-door standard steel sports saloon[4] was the first post-war luxury car from Bentley. Announced in May 1946[5] and produced from 1946 to 1952 it was also both the first car from Rolls-Royce with all-steel coachwork and the first complete car assembled and finished at their factory. These very expensive cars were a genuine success; long-term, their weakness lay in the inferior steels forced on them by government's post-war controls.[6] Chassis continued to be supplied to independent coach builders. Four-door Saloon, two-door saloon and drophead coupe models with bodies by external companies were listed by Bentley along with the Bentley-bodied saloon.[2]
This first Bentley factory finished car was given the name Bentley Mark VI standard steel sports saloon. This shorter wheelbase chassis and engine was a variant of the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith of 1946 and, with the same standard steel body, became the cautiously introduced Silver Dawn of 1949. In 1952 both Rolls Royce Silver Dawn and Bentley Mk VI standard steel bodies were modified to incorporate a boot of about twice the size and the result became known as the R type Bentley based on the Chassis number at which the change took place.[7][8][9]The name of the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn was not changed after the modification that started with the "E" series in these cars.[10]
Mark VI engines and chassis were modified to provide higher performance and sold to be bodied by selected coach builders as the first Bentley Continentals (see below).[11]
The Mark VI 4 1⁄4-litre used an F-head straight-6 engine 4.3 L (4,257 cc/259 cu in) in size. The manufacturer refused to disclose a horse power value for the car (other than Tax Horsepower of 29.4 hp according to the old RAC formula) but an Autocar Magazine road test reproduced in 1950 reported that top gear provided "flexibility down to 6 mph (10 km/h)" and the ability to "climb a hill of 1 in 9 maximum gradient, complicated by bends",[12] all of which supported the manufacturer's contention that power, along with low speed torque, were adequate.
