Description

1964 Commer PA Camper Van
The day has finally come that i'm offering for sale my beautiful Commer Van, I've had much interest in it over the years and a few good offers but it wasn't the right time for me. I'll say here and now that i'm reluctantly offering it up out of guilt as it has been in storage most of the last three years and only taken out when I come back and visit occasionally (as I work interstate) but If it does not sell this time round it may be put away for a long sleep or ship it off to my new home in Melbourne Victoria, where it will be available for any promotional/ fashion/ TV/ Film or advertising work.
It's a 1964 PA meaning it has the 1500cc engine and single shared front parkers and indicators. It is a 3 owner vehicle, it's first two years owned and operated for business use then 2nd owner Tom bought it who was a master craftsman coach builder by trade. It was Tom's sole intention to turn it into a campervan to take the whole family away on multiple vacations around Australia (which they did), the craftsmanship on the campervan fit-out was done to a very high standard and is testament to Tom's skills as it still shows as good today 50 years on!
Mechanically it's always been regularly maintained, mileage is currently 59266 Miles, this has all been documented from 1966 in a hand written ledger, in recent mileage it has had new genuine crossply whitewall tyres fitted. It has just had a brand new Hitachi alternator fitted with internal regulator and converted to negative earth so a modern radio could be installed if you wish, a new fan belt was also fitted. By the end of this auction it will also have a new highway ratio diff centre fitted to help it rev a little less at highway speeds, the new diff centre is in excellent condition. The radiator was professionally reconditioned and cleaned 3 years ago and has always been run with a radiator sock and regularly cleaned also at this time it had new radiator hoses fitted. And I have just put a new set of wiperblades on it.
Interior wise it has just had an original pair of seat frames sandblasted, repainted, re-foamed and recovered to original spec. It has had a new red and white candy stripe canvas poptop made for it and new cloth curtains to match. The rest of the trim is what was installed in 1966 ie.. Solid timber fit out, burgundy vinyl trim, drop down formica laminated table, diamond alloy paneling, period cooker, yellow sink, ornate yellow textured sliding panel doors under sink, bakelite light/ electrical switches, period style light fittings, rear roll up blinds, original gas/electrical fridge. The tap for the sink is still functional but the water tank underfloor was removed before my time would be fairly easy to re-install a generic modern one from a caravan as the filling cap is still set up on LH side and pipe running underfloor.
Body wise it is in fantastic condition, with the 2nd owner being a coach builder/ panel beater and the van itself only ever really being used sparingly and on vacations through the year it was meticulously maintained and stored in a shed most of its life. In the past month it has had the roof and sunvisor completely sandblasted to bare metal, etch primed and painted in a lovely gloss white. From the gutters down it is all fairly original era paint inside and was told it got a fresh respray around the time it got its poptop conversion in 1966, although the lower half is starting to look a little thin in places. The body itself is close to gun barrel straight and no rust. The is some very light surface rust in two spots one under the front bumper and similar below rear bumper, where water has got in at the horizontal seam approx inch in diameter (can send pics upon request). Monkey bike Brackets on rear bar are removeable, period style roof racks are included. MONKEY BIKE AND SURFBOARDS DO NOT COME WITH VAN AND IS NOT FOR SALE OR INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION.
Overall pictures help form part of the description and inspection is welcome for serious bidders, ask any questions and I will try and reply asap. I am letting the auction run it's full course. The Commer is currently on club rego and will be sold unregistered, the prestige plates are not included in sale however if there is a winning bidder they will get first option to purchase. I would see the van passing a QLD Roadworthy Cert fairly easily. The only faults I can really pick are that it would benefit from new front windscreen rubber as current one leaks if left parked in heavy rain (as a result wet underlay has lifted some of the paint on front floors) and sometimes the syncro between 3rd & 4th gear can be a little sticky (i'm not sure if this is due to lack of use, only happens occasionally)
It's an absolute time machine and a beauty!! More pictures will be loaded tomorrow evening. I do have plenty of leftover candy stripe canvas that will go with van, enough to make an awning if you wish.
Any questions just shoot them through.
Overseas bidders welcome, payment via cash on pickup or bank deposit, if you do wish to pay via paypal you will have to cover all associated costs as their fee's are extortionate. 10% Deposit required within 24hrs and rest of payment within 5 days. It is up to the winning bidder to organize their own transport, I can try my best to deliver to a transport depot but cannot guarantee 100% as I may be back working interstate by then and it would be up to my farther. I'm not sure how it is showing up in regards to postage but seemed to be the only way I could list it, obviously this is a full-size real life automobile and wont fit through regular post and will need a tow truck or car trailer for collection.
