Description

Here it is, the one that started it all. A 1970 Series 1 Datsun S30 - 240Z well along its way to a restoration. Not many of these left.
The story: a little over two years ago my son and I bought this car all original for a father and son restoration project. For every project we tackled, every original part was painstakingly restored except for those that needed replacement because of wearing or safety.
The buyer can restore the engine and the exterior, including paint, and the car will be like the day it left the dealer. If you have watched the price of these cars skyrocket over the last few years and understand what a Series 1 means, then you know this is a serious investment. It will take a very educated customer to buy this car.
So here are the major restoration projects that have been completed. Hundreds of hours on other smaller projects are omitted from this list.
1. Interior stripped down to metal. Removed original minimal sound/heat protection as it was notoriously insufficient for noise and heat. Installed high end sound deadening and heat protection layers.
2. Restored seat hardware, installed new seat upholstery by professional upholstery business.
3. Restored original dash (big job!) including exterior, frame, the complete wire harness, and all gauges including lights. Some projects remaining in this area.
4. Upgraded fuse box to modern standards. One of those safety upgrades.
5. New brake drums and hardware for rear. New rotors, disks (slotted), hardware, and restored original brake calipers with new seals for front. New brake booster, brake lines, and master cylinder.
6. Restored front and rear hubs. Everything re-greased.
7. Professional rebuild and restoration of rear differential. This was an amazing (and not cheap) project. All internals now new.
8. Restored all rear and front suspension components, swing arms, steering assembly. New springs throughout.
9. Restored original dealer-installed upgraded aluminum rims. This was our favorite result. They just look awesome. Not cheap chemical clean up job, rather re-cut the metal with CRC machine to new surface. Plus four new tires.
10. Professional install of restored and rebuilt Skyline 6-speed manual transmission. This is the best add on transmission for this car. Fifth gear makes for comfortable highway speeds. The transmission was installed without cutting into the metal of the car, so it remains untouched. The intention was to restore the original 3-speed automatic transmission but unfortunately we could not find a diaphragm for the reverse gear that was broken. We have all the original transmission parts for those with a fabrication interest.
11. New weather gaskets throughout. The rest are in a box for when the glass is removed for painting.
In essence, restore the original engine (which is running perfectly) from a cosmetic standpoint, restore the exterior, finish a bunch of fun little projects, and paint the car and you have a 1970 in 2018!
If you have restored a classic, your expectations will be appropriate. If you have never restored a classic be prepared for many imperfections yet to be addressed.
Many parts, manuals (including the original owner's manual), and other miscellaneous items included with the sale. Also, memory stick with thousands of photos taken during the restoration process for those into the details. Lastly, a box with dozens of receipts that have never been added up because the project was never about the money but rather the quality father and son time.
Serious inquiries only, please.
