Description

1948 FORD F1 1/2 TON SHORTY PICKUP TRUCK
This is a really cool old ford. I got it from an estate of an old-timer. I had been trying to buy it for years, but he was senile, so one week it was for sale, the next he might curse at me and tell me to get lost. I came with a trailer to get a different rig from him, after agreeing on a price and everything, and he said it wasn't for sale lol. This F1 has an excellent body for your project. It is straight and is remarkably dry. The paint looks original, and no filler. Nearly rust free.It would be a shame to paint it and restore it, but to each his own. The truck has nice patina and would look good waxed or clearcoated. If your planning on restoring it though, the body is a very nice one to start with. The sheetmetal is nearly rust free and straight. These trucks look nice with stepside boxes from the era if you choose, and they aren't hard to find. I like the weathered, factory flatbed myself. Used boxes are available but reproduction box parts are available to build a new box to your desired dimensions. Box sides, fenders, tailgates, wood floors, etc. are all available to build a box. The transmission and clutch work fine also. Original spare mount included and spare! Clear montana title in my name. I have MANY more pics I can send. Feel free to ask questions. Thanks.

MECHANICAL

This truck has what most likely is the original flathead V8. It runs and drives but is just setup for loading and lot driving. It is running on a temporary fuel tank. It runs good but needs freshened up. It doesn't smoke. Runs cool. Oil stays clean. Dual exhaust. No knocks. No misses. I'm sure it could use plugs/wires/fluids/fuel system cleaned etc. Maybe new points. I don't know much about flatheads but some have dual points. This engine runs pretty nice though so you may be able to leave that alone. It needs shocks and exhaust. Probably other misc mechanical parts. I did put a new cartridge oil filter in it though. It has great oil pressure and runs cool. The belt for the water pumps broke off but neither was seized. Just a weak belt or something. I'll fix it before loading. It was -10 when I drove it around here so it wasn't an issue! It does have good antifreeze in it to. The brakes work but should be checked and bled better. It needs tires. They hold air though! Some of them are close to as old as the truck it appears. Clutch and transmission work fine. Clutch doesn't slip. All gears work. I haven't tried anything electrical except the starter and ignition. I drove her around here in -10 snow, so it won't take much to get it street ready.
BODY
The body is very nice for an unrestored 1948 F1. The cab forward sheetmetal is straight for the most part and only a couple small spots of rust: small spot where the gas pedal sits. One running board has minor rust starting. Nothing of concern. The paint looks original. The cab, floors, frame, cowl, fenders, hood, doors, running boards, etc. are all in nice shape. Doors and hood open/close properly. Hood does also. The bed is a lightweight factory flatbed. The wood could be original, not sure on that. This rig looks perfect I think, in the sense that it looks the same it did 30 years ago, and maybe 50 years ago. Untouched, weathered. I grew up around ranches so I'm fond of these old farm/ranch rigs
INTERIOR
There is not much in the way of interior in these, but the seat is original which is nice. Comfortable but needs recovered. Clean overall. Gauge area all looks good and original. Gauges work too! I believe the visors are in it. The pics tell the story. I don't believe the dash has been cut at all.
This old beauty is sold as-is, and used. Thanks and happy bidding!
