Description

1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V
400 cu 6.6L V8 auto trans RWD PB PS
Drive and Ride:
This thing rides like nothing else out there. The suspension and weight of the car eat all the bumps of the road. Your body will sink in the sofa seats as your legs extend completely out to the pedals. Turn the key and you can barely hear the sound of that big 400 cranking up. Hearing the smooth rev sounds of the motor as you cycle through all the gears is my favorite part about riding in any antique vehicle but cut on the radio and drown out any exterior noise with the crisp sound of your favorite road tripping tunes. A quick look down at the dash to check your speed followed by a safety glance at the mirrors gives you feeling of being in a luxurious land yacht. For the Mark V was the flagship of the Ford Motor Company for many years and you are now its Captian. A blanket of confidence falls over you as you use the hood ornament to gauge where you are in the lane. You grip the steering wheel with your pointer and thumb wondering why as the car drives like it is on tracks. Cruise control takes over and the feeling of being a passenger starts to take over. Opening the sunroof and rolling down the windows is the only way of letting the outside world in this captain’s cockpit. Oh no, your lane is about to merge and this jerk in a sporty hybrid is accelerating so you can’t get over! Person must not realize that this heavy sled is packing some serious muscle. Hit the gas and power past him effortlessly for this car will not only surprise you with its “Getty Up” but will impress as well.
Have I painted a great enough picture for you? I’m speaking from experience as I have driven this car thousands of miles on recent road trips. Driving this vehicle is a true experience. I consider myself real lucky to have spent 18 hours driving this car from Texas to Virginia in October. Had the opportunity to drive it on the Blue Ridge Parkway Thanksgiving weekend and this past weekend. Car gets nonstop attention everywhere it goes.
Engine runs very smooth and quiet with a recent tune up 11/25/2018. New shocks all around. Carb could probably use a rebuild after all these years. Got to give it a lil gas to get it started but other than that no issues. I drive this thing 3 days out of the week. This car is turnkey road ready and show ready.
Interior:
Electric Power Windows, Door Locks, Mirrors, Factory Sunroof, Antenna, Pop-up Headlights, Auto Dim High Beams. All the lights work. Radio works Excellent! Speakers sound great. Cordovan Luxury Leather interior in great shape but does have some wear creases (not to shabby for 40 yrs. old). Power 60-40-60 style seats (Driver side currently not working but will try to fix here soon). Head liner looks great. Sunroof operates smoothly with 0 leaks. Power Windows (Replacing passenger window motor). Passenger door panel is cracked in two spots, still works fine (Might replace when I install window motor). Cartier Clock and gauges all work as they should. Wood grain looking dash is still in nice shape as well. All doors, glove box, and ash trays (4) open and close smoothly and are clean. Carpet looks good to but I think a quick shampoo would go a long way (will try to do before sale). Factory Floor mats in good shape as well! Chrome Ford Motor Company door sills are in great shape.
Exterior:
Cordovan Metallic Paint w/ White trim and White top. In very good shape for the age with no dents or scratches. Paint is a little dull and could use a good buffing. Does have two spots near the white top where the paint/body has been repaired properly (Previous owner was planning to have car painted, message me for more photos and info). No Rust on the car. It is very solid! White top and trim are still in great looking shape. All Chrome still has its shine with no pitting or blemishes. All lights work and lens are clean and not cracked or broken. The Grille and the Hood Ornament make this vehicle and look excellent between the working pop-up headlights. Wire wheel hub caps look great (probably weigh 20lbs each haha) with almost new white wall tires. Matching full size spare in trunk hidden by carpeted tire cover. Door handles work and look smooth. Lifting up a little on the door handle cuts on all interior lights as well as the exterior door locks courtesy lights. Weather stripping is in okay shape but is the original.
