Welcome to the sale of my much loved Mazda MX5. This is a UK SE (Special edition) model, of which only 200 were made, this being the more desirable first release, with wider 15" x 7" wheels. These were the top of the range UK model at the time, costing over £4000 more than the standard mx5 back in 1992 and had a number of features to mark them out including: Brilliant black paintwork with contrasting tan leather interior, unique 15" alloys, wooden steering wheel, handbrake and gear knob and ABS, Power steering, and electric windows as standard- as well as many other features. For more information on the SE model look here: style="text-align: left;">
This car has covered 132k but don't let that put you off, these cars can go on forever and this has an incredible service history with tons of paperwork. Serviced by Mazda main dealer up until 60,000 miles, serviced independently there after.
Recorded service history prior to my ownership is as follows (with notable recent major works added):
16/06/92 - 706
02/11/92 - 3770
13/05/93 - 6306
19/01/94 - 9168
01/12/94 - 13692
03/02/97 - 24533
25/03/97 - 31069
11/11/99 - 41098
14/06/00 - 50139
24/05/01 - 59966 + Cambelt
05/07/02 - 68493
19/05/03 - 74738
07/04/05 - 85,230
18/09/06 - 91346
20/02/09 - 101000 + Rear brake discs & Pads
26/01/10 - 110395
01/02/11 - 114564
18/02/12 - Mileage not noted
28/05/13 - 121248
27/05/14 - Mileage not noted + Front discs and pads
Other notable work done outside of services:
15/04/05 - Full respray (not accident damaged) with bill of over £1000
12/07/08 - New roof
04/10/11 - New clutch and slave cylinder
Since I bought it in August 2015, I serviced it as soon as I bought it (15/08/15, at around 128,000) with new oil, oil filter, air filter, gearbox oil, spark plugs, differential oil, as well as fitting a new MX-5 parts stainless steel exhaust. This is not too loud, but does add a nice subtle sporty tone - perfect for this type of car.
The seats were also looking a little tired so I sourced a set of matching seats from one of the other 200 SE models with less wear - these look fantastic and make the interior a lovely place to be. The audio system has also been updated with a Sony head unit with CD & Aux in for music, and new speakers behind the original grills.
MOT is valid until June 2016.
The car is a joy to drive and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. It was bought as a fun summer car, but I decided I wanted a 4 seat convertible, so I sold my main car and this became my daily driver while looking for the right car. I have since found the perfect one and so it is time for the Mazda to go. I have covered a very happy 5000 miles in the car and it hasn't put a foot wrong in that time, being a surprisingly good long distance cruiser. The car runs exactly as it should, starting at the first turn of the key no matter how long it has been stood. All the electrics work, including both electric windows and all gauges.
The not so good bits:
While the car did have a respray in 2005, and has a nice deep gloss all over, there are some marks, scratches and the odd small dents as you'd expect, but as you can see from the photos nothing to take away from the overall beautiful appearance. It does suffer from the usual mk1 mx5 issue with slight rust on the rear sills, as 95% of UK MK1's do, this is not nearly as bad as some that i went to look at, but i'm just being honest. It is limited to the lower part of the rear sills, and I have covered it in a protective rubber coating to attempt to prevent it spreading, and has not got worse during my ownership. I can email close up pics, just ask.The alloys could do with a refurb, but are all straight and true, and the tyres have a decent amount of tread. While the roof itself is good, having been replaced in 2008, the rear screen has some cracks in it, I have sealed this with specialist weatherproof tape, and it is completely watertight. It is also the Zip out rear window type, and so the whole roof would not need to be replaced, just the rear window if wished, but it functions perfectly as it is.Overall this is a fantastic original car (except the exhaust and stereo), with low owners and mileage for the year (covering just over 5000 miles a year) and I will be sad to see it go, I just can't justify owning two classic cars!
Thanks for taking the time to read my advert. I'm happy to answer any questions or email more pictures - Just ask. Car is located in Oxforshire, OX7 area.
