Description

In a word - Stunning.
Full rotisserie restoration done with judging in mind by previous owner, as evidenced by the bias-ply tires for originality, Palo Alto instrument work and the very expensive battery replica (custom built I'm told). Originally black with a red interior, the switch to period-correct Mercedes Blue Code 335 with Parchment interior was a very wise choice. Everyone who sees the car comments on the color. Everyone. There's something really special about this blue. I'm not particularly fond of blue cars, but this one - wow.
Here's the thing - I'm afraid to drive this car. It's too nice. I don't have the heart to put the first chip on it or get road grime on the gorgeous undercarriage. I've had a 190SL judge look at her. He loved it. He felt the switch to this color was a plus, it's so pretty. Some of you might make this a trailer queen and have her judged. Others would be happy driving her to car shows or for a smart cocktail at your favorite watering hole. The latter was my goal, but I just can't do it.
The judge did note some deviations - some appear deliberate; others a mistake? For instance, the visors. Should be leather. They're the smoked glass and chrome style. They look much better in my opinion. The rubber mats aren't there. And, the rubber seals between the bumper pieces aren't supposed to be black. The previous owner added a passenger's side rear view mirror during restoration for looks and safety, I guess. Dealer option maybe at the time? Not sure on that one. Of other note - we cheated a little on the engine - there's a new electronic distributor and new fuel pump that really help her run beautifully. I've got the old parts if you want to go back to stock.
This is a gorgeous car. Tough to find one like this; particularly in New England. If you're a New Englander in the market for a 190SL you're normally stuck with flying out west or buying one sight uneen. Come take a trip to sunny New Hampshire and see her in her heated storage where she's stored under cover.
The pictures tell the story. Only 385 miles since restoration.
Inspections welcomed and encouraged.
