Description

1972 Plymouth Road Runner 340 4-speed. One of only 329 made with thisengine/transmission combination in 1972. This car has the verydesirable Air Grabber hood option, as well as power windows, Stratovent, bucket seats, tachometer, console, dual painted racing mirrors, electronic ignition, dual exhaust, hood pins, fender mounted turn signalindicators, belt moldings, power disk brakes, and the very rare coolantrecovery option. All of those options were on the car when it was made, and are listed on the original fender tag.

This car has been repainted once in its original Gold Metallic color. The only minor rust repair ever done to this car was at the very bottomof the quarter panels behind the rear wheels, all the panels on the carare original to the car. The floors, frame, trunk floor, and all theother panels were never rusty and are in excellent condition. This carhas only 66,720 original miles on it, and I am the 3rd owner. The vintag, fender tag, radiator support, door sticker, and transmissionnumbers all match. The engine is not the original one, but it is a 1971340.

This car runs a drives very well, and everything works as it shouldwith the following 2 exceptions: there is a aftermarket am/fm/cassetteradio in the car which does work, but not very well. I'm not sure ifit's the radio or the speakers that are the problem. I have the originalAM radio that will come with the car, but I have not tested that so Idon't know if it works or not. The tachometer works, but it is notaccurate, it reads much higher than the actual engine RPM's.

The 340 engine has been rebuilt and runs great! It does not burn orleak oil. It starts right up when it's cold, and the choke on theThermoquad carburetor functions as it should. The radiator was done byGlenray Radiator, and has all the correct numbers. It has their maxcoolcore in it. The car never runs hot, even sitting in traffic. It has anew, reproduction dual exhaust system on it made by Accurate Exhaust. The rear end is a 8 ¾” with 3.55 gears and a sure grip.

There are 2 options on this car that were added, it originally hadmanual steering, and it has been upgraded to power steering. The caroriginally came with 14” wheels and whitewall tires, I added the muchbetter looking 15” wheels and G60-15 Polyglas tires. Besides those 2 things thecar is just like it was when new.

In the interior the carpet and headliner were replaced, but the restof the interior is original to the car. The original seat covers, doorpanels, and dash pad still look great!

This is a very very nice car that was never a rust bucket, and hasnever been butchered up or abused. Solid original cars like this arevery hard to find in this condition. I have had the pleasure of owningthis car for the last 4 years. Unfortunately, I have almost no freetime, so the car gets very little use. It's time to let it go to someonewho can enjoy it more.
