Some more information about the car. This is titled as a 1962 2 DR Volkswagen with the DMV but the body is a 1968 model year Manx. Steve Swyka of Swyka Automotive Wilm., DE did the building of this buggy. All the wiring is impeccably neat underneath, the car is titled, tagged and insured. The front seats have seat belts (lap) and the seats adjust forward and back. The only thing that is different is the car now has a 2015 sticker on the license plate. I take the car out a couple times a year to keep everything running well and I get it tagged every year as well. The Manx has the original B. F. Meyers body ID Plate. The V.I.N. number on the frame matches the V.I.N. on the title. The car was repainted to match the original coded number on the serial number. All the chrome parts have been professionally rechromed. The front headlights are the original Dietz headlights. The dash, roll bar, rear seat and windshield were original to the car when bought new. The gauges are all VDO gauges. This car also has 4 wheel disc brakes and stops on a dime. They consist of the speedometer, oil pressure, volts, gas and temperature. All the gauges work, the lights , work, the horn works and the wipers work. I also have the gauges hooked up to warning lights, just incase you're not looking at the gauges. I also had a custom bright yellow bimini top made for the car which will come with it. On the driver side of the car, just where your left arm sits on the side has a hairline scratch. The rest of the car as you can see is a real looker and one heck of a performer! The tires are Coker redline tires and have the period correct stance with the steel wheels and hub caps. The panel where the gauges are drops down easily incase you need to work on something. The Manx serial number is M1984F813S and as I said is in the Manx Registry. I had submitted pictures and proof to Bruce and Winnie Meyers before starting the restoration for validation of it being a real Manx, they said yes it was and when I finished it back in 2008 I sent the new pictures and Bruce and Winnie Meyers put it in. The seats were custom made by a place called New Castle Interiors in Newport DE with the Manx logo stitched to the headrest area. The high beam button on the floor has the chrome like foot attached to it to keep it within the time period. The rear view mirror is from Mooneyes in the shape of a surfboard and it has the old style wood wheel with chrome inserts. The car is very, very quick and starts up the first time, everytime.
This registered Manx is in great condition with everything working and everything that is supposed to be there, is there. This is an original Manx 1 which comes with the spare tire well and battery compartment under the rear seat. I have enclosed many pictures, along with pictures of the Meyers ID Plate, vin numbers and the quality of this buggy.
I purchased this vehicle about 10 years ago from a gentleman in McKinney TX. A well known and very knowledgeable Manx collector and historian. We trailered it home and the restoration began. :) The B.F. Meyers Body tag # M1984F813S means - M = Manx, 1984 = number in production, F= June production, 8= year of production 1968 and 13S = Tangerine Red.
We all appreciate the timeless creation of Bruce Meyers! What an inventor and what an incredibly cool, fun and iconic car he came up with!!!! How many of these original Meyers Manx dune buggies do you see in this condition with this power plant?
