Description

CHEVROLET ASTRO DAY VAN AUTO.
First registered in USA on 24/04/1998. Registered in England on / around 10/2011, having been imported from Japan.
We bought “Chuck” on the 12th August 2011 with every intention of keeping it for a long time; due to this we (i) spent a lot of money and time on it.
It passed the MOT with no issues, a couple of advisories only.
It then went for a multipoint gas conversion at a cost of £1500.
Since this time l have carried out the following work,
*MOT’d.
*Oil and filter replaced
*Spark plugs replaced,
*Distributor cap and leads replaced,
*N/S engine mount replaced,
*Upper and lower ball joints,
*upper wishbone bushes,
*front shock absorbers,
*Rear suspension bump stops,
*Rear leaf springs re-tensioned and up rated,
*rear shock absorbers,
*Front brake pads,
*Brake fluid,
*Front Anti roll bark links and bushes,
*O/S idler arm,
*Inner track rod ends,
*Outer track rod ends
*New battery,
*New drivers side (Nearside, remember it is LHD) window motor just fitted last month.
*3 new heater control knobs, (These fall apart but l imported 3 genuine ones from America for it)
*N/S headlamp,
*Both front indicator / side light lenses replaced. (gone yellow from the sun),
*Front bumper and grill painted,
*Dash clocks bezel has been “Flocked” (Velvet like finish),
*4 X brand new Yokohama tyres, (approx. 1000 miles ago),
At the rear underneath you can see there is a tow bar frame fitted across the chassis however when the rear bumper kit was fitted, the tow bar was removed, if you can get hold of a piece of box section, fit a tow ball to it, you will easily have a useable tow bar again.

When I removed the front suspension I painted the wishbones and the front chassis rails with chassis black paint.
The interior is full leather, the front seats are very comfortable with arm rests.
The middle seats in the rear are captain’s chairs which means they swivel round and lock facing rearwards, the off side on also locks looking out of the side sliding door (a feature l added).
The rear bench seat takes 3 passengers and folds down electronically to make a bed approximately the size of a double bed. All rear seats have lap belts.
Overhead in the rear there are 7 cupboards, all wooden framed with mahogany coloured wood, 1 rear, 4 side and 2 front over the driver and passenger. In the middle of the two front ones there is a small screen television, the power supply for this is on an overhead switch in the front. We have never used this as there was no remote with it. I don’t even know if it works so I am saying it doesn’t.
Overhead in the rear are 2 sets of mood lights which you can see in the picture, and a third set of reading lights which are switched individually.
There a 5 12v power points around the car, 3 front and 2 rear, these are permanent so stay on even if ignition is off, handy for overnight phone charging or DVD watching at night.
On the dash board there is a blue flashing LED, this is not part of the alarm but is manually switchable to look like on. Chuck does have an alarm but there is nothing to show the thieving ******* that one is fitted or on so I fitted this instead.
I made it switchable so that if you sleep in there overnight you can turn it off to save you having an epileptic fit !!.
Remote Central locking on all doors with 2 fobs and 2 keys.
There are a few age related marks and dinks on Chuck but nothing is too noticeable or irreparable. The one rear door has a bit of paint peeled off along the top but this was covered with a strategically placed sticker the cover it and stop it getting worse. The rear doors have a ladder and the spare wheel attached to it.
On the driver’s side (Nearside, remember it is LHD), the door mirror casing is cracked and the glass is a replacement, this was from a very close encounter with an irresponsibly placed wooden fence post!.
The alloys are in very good un kerbed condition however the lacquer has been weathered so they could do with a re-polished.
Steering wheel needs re-aligned since I had the tracking done, (Might get round to doing this before selling it),
The rear bumper houses the added on fog light and reversing lights. One reverse light has been broken off, This was an aftermarket light and l can’t find a matching one so it will need two new ones.
These are all easily done but as we have decided we need to sell due to a change in circumstances, l am leaving this to the new owner.
One advisory given last year was sorted, the rear brakes were below efficiency, I have now re-adjusted the shoes and they are working fine now.
Driving Chuck is effortless, the power steering is very light, the auto box is smooth, the 4300cc Vortec V6 is very smooth and quiet.
Parts have not been an issue to get, John Woolfe Racing has been able to supply me with almost all the parts for Chuck with very good delivery.
I don’t know the MPG as I haven’t worked it out properly but on petrol it is around 20 mpg driven sensibly, on gas l have had 220 miles+ to £40 of LPG.
Please remember Chuck is just over 16 years old and has travelled over 3 continents (Not under its own steam of course).
As you can see from the one picture, Chuck has been used as a wedding car for a friend, l was asked a number of times since if it was for hire. (Just another potential use).
I only did the one wedding and it was as a favour not as a business
Any questions please feel free to ask, viewing can also be arranged and recommended.
The price …….. Even if I were to get the full asking price l will have lost over £3k.
You will find cheaper ones out there but no with this much work carried out, we did this as we fully intended to keep it.
If you are interested I really recommend viewing so you can see exactly what you are getting.
There is no VEL but the MOT is valid till September 14.
£6600 ovno.
