1968 Datsun 1600 510

For sale is a 1968 Datsun 1600 / 510. It is build number 9075.
It was a running car back in 1997 when I completely stripped it down to a bare shell to build it into a rally car. Until now is has been in a rotisserie and stored in a shed. I have re-fitted the suspension, panels and some interior and trim to make it look more appealing for sale.
I have most parts to restore it to a genuine 1968 model running car. Below is a list detailing what is wrong with it, or not genuine 1968 parts. Unless specified below, and to the best of my knowledge, all other parts are 1968.

· It comes with what was a running 1970 L16 engine and a running 4 speed gearbox and clutch from a 1969 model.
· It has had a poor re-spay at some stage.
· Both rear quarters have rust in them. The passenger’s side is also rusted through the inner skin (drivers is not). I would suggest after-market lower quarter panels would be the easiest repair option.
· Both sills have rust in the very back sections. A pretty easy fix to cut out and replace.
· The passenger’s front guard is dented and has a tiny bit of rust. It is repairable. Also after-market option are out there.
· There are another 8 little dents in the rest of the car. Circled in blue in the pictures.
· The boot may have some bog in it and the rust is just surface rust.
· The rust in the wheel well and under the bonnet is just surface rust.
· The battery mount was removed from under the bonnet. I can re-weld another one into it if the purchaser wishes.
· A handbrake bracket underneath and a rear seat mount were removed. However, I have now replaced them.
· 80% of the deadener from underneath and inside the car has been removed.
· The driver’s seat is missing.
· The stitching on the passenger’s seat has rotted and fallen apart. The material is good and the springs and foam are in very good condition.
· The top piece of the rear seat has come apart at the top from sun exposure. The rest of it is in very good condition, as is the base of the back seat.
· The back door cards are 1968 and are in great condition but have sun discoloration at the top. One of the front ones is a 1970 one and a different colour, the other is a 1969 and similar colour.
· The hood lining is missing, but I have the hoop bars and the 4 small plastic vents that fit into the C pillar. I can supply a 1970 hood lining if needed. After market ones are available.
· The dash pad is badly sun damaged.
· It does not come with a steering wheel.
· The glovebox insert is not in the dash. I have removed it to make a mould to make new fibreglass inserts. Once I make them I will supply one to the purchaser.
· The driver’s side guard indicator is a late model one.
· There is no carpet.
· The radio is a 1970.
· The rear suspension is from a 1970 with a 3.9:1 auto diff. But I can supply a manual 3.7:1 as well.
· I am not sure what year model the indicator stalk is.
· I am not sure what year model the wheels are, but they are standard Datsun 13”.
· I am not sure what year model the hubcaps are. Most likely 1970.
· It comes with both 1970 and 1969 sun visors and the clips that go with them.
· One of the internal door lock knobs is a 1970.
· The rear Datsun badge is a 1969 and the front guard badges is missing. It is missing the bracket that holds the ignition barrel.
· The door locks, boot lock and ignition barrel are 1970 (keys available). The fuel filler cap is missing.
· The bracket that holds the choke cable to the dash is a 1969.
· The rubber fuel filler hose is perished. I do have some good 180B ones which may be able made to fit.
· I am unsure of the year model of the rear bumper bar.
· There are no rubber brake lines with it. Only the steel ones.

On the good side:

· All the bits that are unique to a 68 are there and generally is good condition.
· I have both windscreens.
· The front indicator / parker lights work. The rear light lenses are intact. The globe holder section is very good except where the reversing light fits in. Both are perished at this area.
· Most of the chrome /stainless is in good condition.
· The door chrome, rubbers, glass seals and window glass are in very good condition for its age. The windows wind up very freely.
· The door hinges are really tight with no movement.
· With the exception of what was mentioned in the above the list, the body is very straight and rust free.
· I have a reasonable amount of other Datsun spares and parts which I would sell additionally if wanted by the purchaser.
