Description

Ok
time to sell the old girl as i have had to buy a more suitable car to go to work in. my new job means i could be spending 3 hours a day in traffic and I'm afraid the range just isn't built for it.
we also don't really have the space to keep an extra car and so she up for sale.
firstly she's nearly 20 years old there are problems that i shall list but in honesty consider her age while reading there are bound to be issues and i reflect this in the asking price.
the bad bits
- the air con has lost its gas i had it charged up last year and it did work , that said the blend motors work and at least you can get heat in the winter.
- the paint work is not great there are a couple of bubbles in the normal places nothing thats likely to rot away any time soon but still. December time i noticed the lacquer on the bonet in one spot had started to peel , I've experienced this before on my partners old golf so i quickly knocked the surface back with P800 and sprayed lacquer over it to stop it spreading with the freeze thaw that is a uk winter. as you can see in the pics its not that bad , but it was only ever a patch job until the weather picks up. i'll include a touch up bottle with the right base colour.
- there is a little bit of welding to do , didn't bother me as you can't see it and it isn't structural. inner wing passenger side no where near the chassis mounts or seatbelt anchor.
- the air suspension works when it feels like it, my scanner says there is a problem with the drivers side rear height sensor. the air bags hold air for weeks at a time with out going down so its not to serious it just needs sorting out.
- the head lining i had redone and for the better part it looks ok but the i think one of the rea corners was probably stretched a bit far when glueing down as its let go. drop isn't really that noticeable and hasn't got worse for over a year , it can probably be reglued with out removing the entire liner if it bothers you.
- the previous owner was unfortunately an amateur electrician. I've had to systematically go through removing many of the widgets he had fitted such as the fog lights, he wired them directly to the main beam with no relay or switch . the TVs in the head units where powered from one of the fan units , i found this out when said fan burnt out. that said the monitors units do work if you want to wire them up. i had a master plan to fit a PS2 but never got around to it.
- one of the spill rail pipes has an air leak which causes the injector light to pop on occasionally when you let off the throttle ( i'll include high quality pipe to replace it, again it just needs doing)
the good bits
- the tyres all have plenty of tread left on them 5mm at least.
- the spare tyre has the same rim as the rest ( although its a seriously tight fit in the wheel well)
- the tools are there to change the wheel as is the key
- The engine runs well enough ( ignoring the spill rail thing) keep in mind i started my new job 1st of January so she has been making the 3 hours a day for 6 weeks with no issues other that whats been mentioned
- Alpine head unit that has CD/ RADIO/USB input
- gear box is fine
- Some service history ( most things i brought for the car i kept receipts)
- Recent new battery
- Recent new alternator ( these cars are critical on power so the first step to diagnosing the air suspension was making sure the charging was ok)
- tow bar
- Cruise control works ( at christmas we went to my parents , 400 mile run and i can tell you getting to 70 and clicking the cruise control for 3 hours is all i wanted and she will do that just fine)
- hot start fix ( god knows why BMW thought it was a good plan to not use the glow plugs unless its really cold) which means its now up to the driver weather you want to start the car with the glow plugs or not.
- This car will literally pull anything, weather, snow , ice, standing water makes absolutely no difference what so ever. cruise control on off you go.
- its the BMW diesel so not to bad on juice.
- all the spares i have i'll chuck in ( as seen in one of the pictures)
i brought this car to launch my speed boat with , and given that i used to launch and retrieve a 1.5 tonne boat one my own with this car speaks volumes. i used may different tow vehicles in the past for this and non where as good at it as the range.
this is more of a tool than a car it has to be said and dispute her problems you could drive her away today and still pull a house or to over on the way.
I'm sad to see her go but the reasons i brought her have gone and she's just not right for what i need now.
obviously as per current legislation there will be no road tax on her when sold but she's MOT'd till may so enough time to get her home and play around before the yearly check up.
