Description

Offering: 1961 Lincoln Continental Sedan, true survivor car. Historically interesting in that this is the first year of the Lincolns with Coach (Suicide) doors and a clean body that changed the automotive design world, winning Lincoln a Design Achievement Award for that year. This year Lincoln is bringing back a limited run of only 80 Coach (Suicide) door Continentals, the first time since 1967! All original, matching numbers car. Car runs and drives well, with every upgrade option available that year to include air conditioning. Original interior and paint. Car has spent its whole life in Wyoming and Colorado until 2017 and has not been wet since 1978, always garaged since 1978, so rust is not an issue. This is not a restored concourse car there are blemishes in the paint, but great condition for an original 58 year old example.
The good: Everything works (except "The bad" see below), no rips, stains or tears to the leather or headliner. Front end control arms rebuilt. Solid timing gear and timing new timing chain installed (a known weak point in the motor). Owners manual and factory shop manual included along with maintenance records from 1964 to present.
Neither good or bad: motor has original valves so until rebuilt it will require lead additive in each tank of fuel to protect the valves.
The bad: The generator stopped working last month, I have elected not to replace it since the new owner may choose to upgrade to an alternator. The Speed Control (cruise control) appears to be all there but has not been hooked up since I have owned the car. I researched and found that the reliability of the system was questionable when new, so I decided to leave it as is, installed and non functional. The Fuel and Temperature gages are inoperative, there is a backup temporarily installed, the fix is a repair or replacement of the printed circuit board behind the gages and reconnection. The central door lock is inoperative, the fix will be repair/reconnect the vacuum lines in that system.
Clear title in hand.
