Description

For Sale is this beautiful W123 Coupe
Best engine, best body shape and one of the best colours to grace the Mercedes of this era!
Mercedes-Benz's compact W123 series became the most successful car ever to wear the Three Pointed Star in commercial terms, with over 2.6 million built between 1976 and 1985. A large percentage these can still be seen on the road today, testimony to the inherent quality of these beautifully engineered machines. The W123 was significantly stronger, better equipped and more refined than its predecessor, with numerous passive features making it one of the safest cars available.
The W123 was available as a four-door sedan, practical estate and a stylish pillar less coupe. Built on a shorter 2710mm wheelbase platform, the W123 coupes were better equipped than their four-door cousins, with features like power steering fitted as standard. The most expensive car in the entire W123 range was the 280CE coupe, with a fuel injected twin-cam 2.8-litre six-cylinder engine under the bonnet.
The M110/988 engine developed 185 bhp at 5800 rpm, enough to propel the 280CE to a top speed in excess of 200 km/h, with decent acceleration to match. Built in relatively small numbers between 1977 and 1985, the 280CE offers surprisingly strong performance from the gutsy six, typically Germanic build quality and safety - all at a very affordable price.
Indeed, the 280CE is the perfect classic daily driver, reliable enough to be used in modern traffic but stylish enough for weekend pleasure trips.
This particular 1977 Mercedes-Benz 280CE is a well-documented 3-owner, 230k km Car (odometer recently slowed down to a halt). The car is in impressive condition overall.
This Coupe runs and drives well, a recent service included a rebuild of the suspension and parts of the system. It comes with many records and documentation from new including the original log book. The car spent most of its life on the North Shore of Sydney by fastidious and enthusiastic owners, until being moved to south of the Bridge by its third owner in 2013. It’s front left guard has been repainted once in its original Diamond Blue Metallic colour and the finish remains in near-showroom quality. The body is rust-free and also free of major dings and dents.
The interior has held up well and is in very good condition. The MB TEX interior has a few very small rips and scuffs and is coming away a little in the back right door card.
The 179-horsepower, fuel-injected 2.8-liter (2746cc) twin-cam six starts easily, idles smoothly and pulls hard through all four gears of the 4G-Tronic automatic. A valve adjustment and replacement of some ignition parts was part of a recent service and the car performs admirably on a daily basis.
