Description

If you're looking at this well preserved car, I'll tell you all about it because I love transparency and honesty.
I bought it unknowing that it was stored for 26 years+ due to a cracked engine block that the previous owners neglected to inform me (I had originally thought the cylinder heads were warped or head gasket blown, so I did a full top end rebuild). HOWEVER I did get the engine running, and drove it around the block a few times, everything seems to work, all the electricals, Lights, steering, transmission, etc.
Nonetheless, the price I have placed is all I have spent on the car (excel file with all purchases and a bucket of receipts will be sent to the buyer). The car initially cost me $3,000 in a non running state, I've since spent $4,788.34 on parts, tools, fluids, and services all of which will be yours ($500 worth of tools including specialist Mercedes tools).
A summary of the work carried out so far
- Entire fuel system overhaul (new pump, filter, strainer, hoses, etc.) and gas tank thoroughly cleaned out, along with fuel injector cleaning, and all new seals.
- AAV overhauled along with cold start valve w/ all new air intake hoses and plenum chamber seals changed
- Interior detailed, carpets cleaned, Leather thoroughly cleaned and treated with 6 coats of Conditioner (Leather in really good condition apart from driver seat scratched up from use).
- All new headlights
- Cylinder head overhaul, Valve Job, remachined, new Cams, new rockers, new cam oilers, valve adjustments.
- All new tires (Lexani Tires) changed, mounted, and balanced.
- New Spark plug wires and spark plugs
- All New (remanufactured) brake calipers, brake lines, brake fluid flush.
- Suspension - New front sub-mounts, stabiliser bar bushings and links, and rear sway bar links, Front shock absorbers changed
- Transmission fluid flushed and new filter installed
- New Battery installed
- Power Steering filter change and fluid flush with genuine Mercedes fluid
- Water pump changed with all new coolant hoses, new thermostat.
- All new Fuses and bad Relays changed
- New Engine Torque Dampers
- New Transmission fluid cooler linesa
- New windshield wiper blades
- New Blower motor
- Differential Fluid changed
- All new belts
More work has been done, but detailing everything would take a while.
And the original Becker radio works.
I am not looking to make a profit on this car and all my hard work, I only look to return back to me what I've since spent. I again let you know that the engine block is cracked allowing the Oil and Coolant to mix into a nice chocolate milkshake consistency, hence you shall either purchase this car with the intent to a) buy a new (remanufactured) engine and replace the existing one and part out the old engine for roughly $3,000 if you have the time, b) buy an engine block and spend some time swapping parts back and forth until you have a solid running engine (cylinder heads on this car are almost brand spanking new with new cams, rockers, remachined with valves adjusted and a complete valve job), or c) part out the whole car for more than what you paid since I've estimated the parts are worth at least $10,000 if you have the time (I do not otherwise that's what I would do), even the EURO bumpers are worth $2,000 alone, or d) (my personal favourite) buy it because it looks pretty and you intend to keep it as a very large paperweight in the middle of your living room or office.
So the choice is yours, I've laid out my cards, I respect the fact you can probably buy a fully functional 450SLC around the same money, yet I only hope you appreciate my honesty and take this time consuming project off my hands.
