Description

351 Big Block 1970 Mercury Cougar
PROJECT
from
MustangBeginnings

Up for auction is an original 1970 “M” Code 351 Mercury Cougar body complete with its number's matching 4 BBL Cleveland Engine.
The Engine and Transmission are already in the car and if properly rebuilt, this would be an awesome ride. This is not a running, driving car, but it could be with a bit of work.
This Cougar would be worth at least $50,000 to $60,000 when fully restored.

BODY:
This Cougar will need rust / body repair in the normal areas around the doors, roof, etc. but the frame is straight, the floor pan is good, and the quarters are in decent condition. You will probably want a new hood as well, but the existing hood will work for now. Overall, a good body man can get this Cougar body ready to paint to any color you choose.

INTERIOR:
The interior should be brought back to excellence. The good news is that you can see what is needed. You aren’t accepting someone else’s mistakes or bad repairs. The instrument panel is in good condition, just dirty, but you will want a new dash pad. The rare high back seats will need recovering, but new covers are available to make the job much less costly. The door panels are in poor condition, but you probably want new ones anyway.

ENGINE BAY:
Engine bay is in great condition, and just needs to be cleaned and painted. While you may be able to get the engine to turn over, it would likely smoke. A head job where the valve guides are replaced, and valves and valve seats are redone would go a long way to bringing the powerful Cleveland engine back to life.

GLASS:
Windshield is scratched but the door glass and the 1/4 side glass are all there
BEST PRICE
We understand that this car needs work, but if it doesn't meet reserve, we will probably be forced to strip it for all the valuable parts that could be used on a Mustang Restoration that come with the car including:
351 4bbl Cleveland Engine $1,500
FMX automatic transmission $700
Power Steering $800
Disk Brakes $800
9" Ford Rear End $1200

Window Glass, Door Glass and Doors $500
Total Value, just in parts = $6,100
MISC.
The car is definitely a project, but we can help where you need our help. We can sell you any of the items you may need, like new seat covers, new carpet Etc. Please ask any questions, we know someone will receive a great project and ultimately a great Classic Big Block Cougar.
The Cougar is currently off the DMV System in California. We will supply you with the documents you will need to get the car licensed in your state.

Please bid with confidence.

I AM SELLING THIS CAR "AS IS", WITH NO EXPRESSES OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIR ONCE THE CAR HAS BEEN PURCHASED. For clarification, we would recommend that you plan to at least do a head job on the engine so that it does not smoke. A rebuild of the carburetor and distributor are also recommended.
Obviously, you will need to restore the interior, and there are rust areas on the roof.
The hood should be replaced as well.
Please send me a message if you have additional questions or concerns.
Thank you
