Description

1947 21st Series Packard Custom Super Clipper 7 passenger sedan 2126. This top-of-the-range senior Packard is a nice survivor car that is under the custodian of it’s third owner. Imported from Temecula California in 2012. Currently this Packard is utilised on the Victorian Club Permit Scheme, passed full Vic RWC inspection, not some dodgy car club safety inspection.
The 7 passenger sedan rides on Packard’s commercial car chassis and was bodied by Henney. The commercial chassis is longer (148 inch wheelbase), deeper, has larger brakes, larger suspension components, body sits higher & weights 5000 pounds dry. Engine: Powered by Packard’s magnificent 9 main bearing, 356 cubic inch straight eight yielding 165 hp, and was the most powerful production car engine available in the US (sorry Cadillac!). This engine runs as it should (smooth) and has been regularly serviced. It has recently had the water pump and radiator hoses replaced, new engine mounts. Gearbox: 3 speed column shift with overdrive. All works as it should, new overdrive relay has been fitted. Diff: High speed 3.92 to 1 rear axle fitted. Combined with the overdrive gives effortless on road performance any chosen speed, easily cruises at 70 mph and is capable of 100 mph. Brakes: Drum brakes all round and have been rebuilt with new wheel cylinders and master cylinder, as well as new linings with machined drums. The brakes confidently match the performance of the car. Front suspension: Completely rebuilt, including the lever arm shock absorbers. The Packard steers very nicely and is not weighty. Rear suspension: new spring bushings and shock absorbers. Body: Finished in Packard Blue laquer which is in good condition, however some cracking is evident on the bonnet. No rust!
Interior: Original interior and carpets still in place. Electrical: A new wiring loom was installed as a safety measure as the original cotton laquer braiding was turning to dust. I have taken the approach to maintain this Packard’s unique original condition by only attending to those service items to maintain excellent drivability. It still retains it’s California “black” plates and comes complete with much documented history dating back to 1957. This rare senior Packard is deemed a true “Classic” by the Classic Car Club of America, which is a rare honour indeed for a postwar vehicle. This Packard represents a rare opportunity.
