Description

1948 Pontiac Silver Streak Straight 8 motor 4 door Saloon
Since we imported from San Diego California we have shown this in many static displays and had the vehicle involved in many shed photo shoots and has been involved with a few period post war short films.
Absolutely rust free, is straight as a die, heavy metal survivor - lots of documentation - rear wheel guards not pictured are in the boot.
One of this vehicles assets always has been its smooth running straight 8 motor that purrs and starts every time. We had problems with shifting up in the transmission which resulted in a fully rebuilt transmission - a $3500 spend so mechanically fully in good shape again.
The old tyres were perished slightly so we purchased from USA supplier brand new whitewall cross ply tyres.
We also made a correct and proper fitment long/thin 6V battery purchase from a specialist USA supplier that suited the factory battery placement pad.
We have put a lot of effort into continually working on rebuilding and preserving the original starter motor and solenoid to the point now that it no longer clicks and groans intermittently on starting and it is now back to starting first time every time like a dream and the full 6 volts getting all the way along the line.
Lights and electrics all work.
Great condition chieftain hood ornament.
Period windscreen visor with great patina.
Period left hand side and moveable from inside at drivers seat spotlight (was this once a taxi or police car?)
Period bull bar nudge raised bar.
Period great condition yellow fog lamps.
Motor in fabulous condition and strong with no smoke, smooth running straight 8 with good compression.
Exterior blue and white paint is in great condition, still bright and not chalky at all but there is some minor (treated with ankor wax) patina rust spots in all the right areas to give just a little period patina without giving off in a persona of an overly loud and proud showcase rat rod. Chrome is in excellent condition and doors bonnet and boot all open and close straight, easily and nice and tight like strong and thick old metal should. This is the preferred 4 door saloon model (not the shorter wheelbase 2 door)
Interior in reasonable condition, seats are comfortable but not immaculate but also not ripped and torn or holy - they look great covered in mexican blankets. Hoodliner and door cards are in reasonable condition - stained slightly with age but not ripped or torn. Dash has wonderful worn patina and only the radio buttons have some worn bakerlite but chrome and glass on instruments are in excellent condition and steering wheel is in excellent condition.
Windows wind up and down easily and the window glass has old but well stuck tinting and on some panes the glass has fabulous cracks and bullet holes held firmly together by the old tinting and this gives a fabulous "gangster image"
This car can continue to be driven and loved as it is like we and previous owners have. It also lends itself to be possibly restored to its original glory and we can introduce you to all the USA suppliers that have new parts for every aspect of this model or it is also a perfect start to transformation to beatnik sled material - customize, chop, bag to your hearts content peoples if that is the vision.
