Description

Without further ado, I present Hamilton, a Sage Grey 1970 Renault 16L. One of the last running, registered, teardrop Renault 16s in Australia.
He features the glorious technological marvels of the 70s. Heating! Vinyl Bench Seats!, Timber side scrolling speedometer!, Soft suspension and assymetrical wheelbase for the perfect long cruise to the beach!
He has been registered and driven as a weekend cruiser for the past 5 years, he toughed it out parked on a quiet street in Preston, but now resides undercover.
He may be old (45 years ain't too bad), but he drives like a young whipper snapper from the 80s!
He tries to keep up to date with incremental servicing and upgrades, on top of regular oil and filter changes so far he has:
New Nankang tyres (only brand that makes thin enough tyres) Jun 2010New Heater valve Jun 2010New driveshafts (imported from Holland) installed 25 Oct 2010New distributor cap (NOS) Apr 2012New ignition coil (Autobahn generic) Apr 2012New Brake Master Cylinder (refurbished in Adelaide) Jan 2013New Ducillier distributor (import from Germany) Feb 2013New Solex Carburettor (import from France) Feb 2013New Front Brake Calipers (refurbished in Adelaide) Sep 2013New Left Rear Wheel Cylinder (NOS) Sep 2013New Rear wheel bearings Sep 2013Despite the work, he still has the occasional cold and requires constant pre-emptive upkeep.
Things due next on the mechanical list are:
New choke cable (generic should be fine)Timing tuning and Carby tuningCarby needs to have the accelerator cable arm fixed properly (requires tapping and creating a thread on the carby)Passenger side front head light has a worn wire and will need replacement.Hamilton runs well, and on the outside he ain't a bad looker.
Chrome hub caps, chrome bumpers, chrome trim, it's all shiny!
Rust in the driverside sill and doors (from being parked on the street for 4 years).
Paint wear on the roof and cracking on the bonnet.
His interior is immaculate.
The vinyl is holding up to the harsh Australian sun without a single crack, The dash has the stock KM sticker ontop the side scrolling speedo, The steering wheel has wear marks but is still smooth,The seatbelts still have spring,The rear parcel shelf shows some age, but still in one piece. And the interior trim is almost perfect.
The idea was to respray and rebuild him this year, but I ended up moving interstate. Messing everything up, Hamilton will never forgive me.
With Hamilton comes:
2 spare rear doors (different colors)spare water pump (NOS, import from Italy)spare fuel pump (NOS, import from Europe somewhere, can't remember)D.S. Hamilton leather case (we think it was the original owners)
Please look at the photos, and send me any questions!
I have to re home Hamilton, I want him going to a home that will take care of him.
Finally, logistics.
Hamilton is currently registered on FULL Victorian rego until 18th Nov.
I will NOT be renewing the registration, I can reserve the original plates if requested, and release when the buyer has attained RWC.
IT IS THE BUYERS RESPONSIBILITY TO ATTAIN RWC AND REGISTRATION.
Hamilton resides in Hawthorn, VIC, 3122. (My parent's house) This is where pick up will be.
Viewing of Car is a bit convoluted as I currently reside in Sydney.
