I am selling my 2004 MK1 Seat Leon 1.9 FR 150 TDI after 2 and a half years of ownership. I bought this car in spring 2013 after I was looking for something that was reliable, very economical, but still had plenty of power to put a smile on my face. It is safe to say that this car fit the requirements perfectly. Throughout my ownership this car has been a pleasure to drive, and has never let me down. Being the FR 150bhp version there is plenty of power to play around with, and when travelling on the motorway I regularly get 50+ MPG (my record is 61 MPG!). As some people may be aware, these cars share a lot of the same components from the MK4 VW Golf and Audi A3, hence making them pretty much mechanically indestructible. Even though this car has done 117,000 miles, that is nothing for these engines, and in comparison with others of these cars for sale, is still relatively young. Below I have listed a few changes that I have made to the car during my ownerships, as well as a few minor problems that the car currently has:
Changes
Seat Leon Cupra R 18” Alloy wheels powder coated Anthracite: 3 perfect condition, however passenger side front wheel does have curb scuffs. Nothing major but does stop them from being a perfect set. All 4 tyres are Pirelli P Zero’s with plenty of tread left on them. The spare wheel is the standard 17” steel wheel.
Seat Leon Cupra R steering wheel, hand brake lever, gear knob, and air vents: All in good condition. Show general signs of ageing and colour fade. 1 centre air vent tab and driver’s side air vent tab have small paint chips.
Seat Leon Cupra R black headlining, rear view mirror, interior lights, grab handles, sun visors and plastic interior panels: All in good condition. Front centre interior light doesn’t come on when the doors are opened, however all the interior lights do work.
6 CD multi changer removed from glove compartment and replaced with storage compartment. This means that you actually have a useable glove box!
Green panel air filter. This can be cleaned at any time and re-used.
Front bumper grills sprayed gloss black by previous owner. Previous owner also de-badged front centre grill and made their own de-badged honeycomb version. Looks ok from a distance but up close it isn’t the best. This is not particularly to my liking, however it would mean acquiring a complete replacement bumper to be able to return it to standard. The previous owner has also sprayed the wing mirror covers in gloss black.
Skoda Fabia rear wiper upgrade. Much more effective than the standard rear wiper as it actually wipes away water!
Problems
Hazard warning switch relay has been replaced but still ticks on occasion. A common fault with these cars. Cheap fix but just a hassle to remove and replace.
The engine management light is on due to a faulty glow plug connection. This is no way effects how the car runs. Simply need a new set of glow plugs to fix the problem.
The door seals on the front passenger side door need replacing. If the car has been stood still (overnight for example) in the rain, then some water comes through the bottom corner of the door when you start driving the car the next day. Not an extreme amount, but for peace of mind the door seals could do with replacing. This was a problem that was with the car when I bought it.
The tailgate has a very small dent in it. I have no idea whether this happened before or during my ownership. The good news is that it is barely noticeable.
Side skirt jacking point covers screwed on from underneath. Very common fault on these cars due to poor design meaning that they fall off very easily. Screwing them on has fixed this issue.
Boot interior light does not work due to faulty wiring. I am sure that if someone was willing to look into it then it would be a relatively easy fix.
Climate control unit is in full working order however some of the buttons are very ‘sticky’. Again this is a common fault on these cars as these units commonly fail.
I have tried to list everything as honestly as possible, but as you can imagine there is always something you miss!
My reason for sale is that I am currently studying Motorsport Engineering at University and I am looking for a project car for my course. I firmly believe that this is an extremely solid car, and will bring its new owners years of trouble free motoring. The car is located near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. If you have any questions at all or would like to arrange a viewing please feel free to contact me through email at [email protected], or by mobile at 07477599638. Apologies if I do not answer straight away but I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks for looking!
