-1950 STUDEBAKER PICKUP -- 2R5 Model -- 1/2 ton -- 2.8L -- 170 CID-This classic was purchased in AZ via eBay in 2002 and it has lived in my WA garage since then. A local auto restorer calls it the most rust-free old truck he’s ever seen!! You can still see shiny new metal up between the pickup walls. (Reportedly the 1950 Stude 2R was the first US truck with a double-walled bed.) It has been lightly used and is a reliable street or country-road vehicle, but not a freeway runner as it is best run under 50mph. It is a perfect light hauler; the bed carries 4x8 sheets flat, but you’ll need to plan extra time at the lumber yard to jaw with jealous truck admirers….
A previous owner had the truck professionally repainted inside and out. It has the original 6-cylinder straight-line engine, 3-speed transmission on the column, no overdrive. It was completely re-wired in 2006 to 12v. with breakers, re-wound Stude starter, new alternator, and new heater motor. The new classic "vintage" instruments match the original Stude horn cap in Tuscan Ivory color. The old odometer showed 56,600 miles when replaced; new one now shows 1,204 miles, total AS OF 6/23/2014: 57,804 MILES!! The interior has fairly new tan upholstery, carpet, & headliner. The engine is clean and was re-painted in 2006. The radiator was re-cored in 2007, and a new thermostat and exhaust pipe installed.
Other than stated above, the truck has mostly original Studebaker equipment. The right wind-wing window needs a latch and the heater core needs cleaning. The switch and new wire for windshield wipers are in place, but no 12v wipers were installed. The fender has a radio aerial port, but no radio was ever installed in the dashboard. Sale includes a complete 2R Series manual on a CD.
A few easy to read bullet points-
-Engine = 6-cylinder straight-line
-Transmission = 3-speed on steering column
-Purchased in Arizona April 2002 -- trucked to Orcas, garaged ever since!
-ONE OF THE MOST RUST FREE RIGS YOU WILL FIND!!!! Have all paperwork, and original parts can be included (please email me if you are interested). Have receipts from work as well (also email for details).
-Completely re-wired in 2006 from 6-volt electrical system to 12-volt -system, new wiring and breakers installed, starter motor re-wound for 12- volts, heater motor replaced, generator replaced with new alternator.
-Odometer: Original @56,250 when bought, replaced @ 56,600, new odometer now = 1,200. Total miles on truck = c. 58,000 +/-.
-Installed new classic "vintage" instruments; very authentic looking panel.
-In running condition at purchase; excellent running condition now! Truck is now a completely reliable starter and runner. Not a freeway driver, best kept under 50 on country roads. Perfect Island or country rig!
-All Original Studebaker Equipment, except for instruments, aftermarket tires, moon caps, and turn signals
-This model = First truck in USA with double-walled bed. First Studebaker model with running boards inside door. The bed measures a perfect 8 feet by 5 feet. Perfect for carrying sheet rock!
-Beautiful lines!
-Brand new paint job with some minor blemishes (see pic). Mainly, the paint looks great, but there are a few areas where the paint could use some touch up (if you are picky). There are a few slight little dings here and there (nothing super noticeable), and a few areas where the clear coat has bubbled up a bit. Overall, it looks great but it not perfect and should not be considered as such. -Passenger side (right) wind wing window does not have latch and will need one if you want it to close tightly.-There is no key to the door for locking. The doors do lock from the inside but there is no way to open from outside once they are locked so you would need to have a key made if you wanted to be able to lock the rig.
-There are no windshield wipers installed but wiring and switch are present.
-No radio or antenna currently installed.
-Interior light available but needs new bulb.
-Brakes are repaired and restored and in good working order.
-Tires have good tread, they are aftermarket bias ply whitewall tires.
-Rear Wheel Drive
-Clean Title in hand
-No known smokers
