In October 1978, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Saab came to an agreement to develop their own executive cars from the Ford Granada and Vauxhall Carlton) as well as premium products from the likes of Mercedes-Benz.
Project 164 started life as Project 154, then still under Alfa Romeo,which was completed in 1981, a year before 164 was complete as 1:1scale model.
