Description

For sale is my '68 American Sports Sedan (base model). 199ci six, column three-speed, manual brakes and steering. Aftermarket A/C R134a. Near-perfect mechanical condition. The original owner drove it until 2017, I bought it in 2019, brought it up to "5 year old car" condition.
Extraordinary documentation: all original dealer materials. Personal relationship with original owner and his mechanic. Car received extraordinary and continuous care since new.Receipts back to 2/68 include my substantial work.
215,000 miles. Engine tests like-new: 6% leakdown, 130-135 psi all cyls. New timing set, valve stem seals.Silent idle, no blowby. Oil changed every 1000 - 2000 miles since new. Oil remains yellow after 2000 mile trips (2021). Clean, neat, upgrades (Pertronix Ignitor II). T96H transmission replaced with T14 in 2019 (have T96H). Rebuilt suspension, new steering gear, new brakes, rear axle bearings and hub, five new tires. New leaf springs, but shackles extended to raise the tail a bit (a nod to modern fashion, lol).
Interior good original but worn. Dashpad has warp, no cracks. All gauges work, speedo rebuilt at great expense. Seats redone, fair quality. Door panels intact, paint wear. Plastic headliner from Galvin's. New door seals, fuzzies, window guides. Windshield gasket replaced, heater box and ducts rejuvenated, all leaks found and fixed. Windshield is near perfect, no sandblasting. Dual action pump and vacuum wipers rebuilt, work like new, smear-free on perfect glass. (Orig. owner had dealer replace windshield with tinted, have receipt andoriginal wrapped in blanket.)
Body solid, but a lifetime of "parking lot" dings and nicks. Paint thin, shabby but proud 215K/53 years. Some bondo, hood and trunk lids misaligned (work fine). Seriously needs cosmetic upgrade but very well kept for 53 years. Frontfloors and trunk rust-through (rubber mat car), rust cut out, welded steel. Door hinges very good, aligned, doors close like new. Window regulators, lock sets, vent frame rejuvenated or repaired. Ignition switch, door locks, trunk lock all keyed the same (expensive).
New tail light lenses, badges, trailer wiring. Has hitch, I haul hay bale ontiny trailer for chicken coop.
Has hidden bluetooth sound system, two-way speakers plus subwoofer behind rear seat. 1975 (I think) AMC AM/FM radio (works fine) in the dash.
The documentation is extensive; what appears to be all new-car-purchase documentation (maintenance book, embossed ID card, owners manual, bill of sale, etc). Original owner filled out every single warranty card, through 56000 maximum, then wrote oil changes in the margins, and on drivers door inside edge (still there). Large number of receipts, big and small, through a succession of AMC dealer name changes. Purchased in Inglewood CA, the car moved to Kingman with the owner in the late 1960s. There it was serviced by an AMC dealer. That dealership underwent name changes, when AMC disappeared, the dealer ran a private shop where the car was serviced through 2017. I have most of those receipts too, and many have extensive prose descriptions of work.
I visited that shop twice, with the car. The mechanic verified what the owner told me, that the engine is original, never out for repair. Only in the owners declining years did maintenance drop (he died in January 2021, age 96). I visited the owner in late 2020, he got to sit in his restored car and was very happy that it was taken care of.
I have documentation of all of the above, you will receive with the car.
This car has it's own web page at, and more sale-specific
photos and details atis (was) my daily driver; it is not a weekend or parade car. I've taken multiple 2000+ mile trips throughout the South West with no problems. It is reliable.
Payment is to be cash or payPal, no checks, no complications. Car must be picked up from me in Los Angeles. If you're from out of town we can work out the details.Pickup must be completed within 7 days.
I am fairly well known in the AMC/Rambler world, on TheAMCForum.com (user tomj), and for my collection of rambler lore at sr-ix.com/AMC.tom jennings
PS: I deleted the previous listing to create this one. Same car. I'm not a frequent eBay seller, and never sold a high-dollar item before. Sorry for any confusion.
Why eBay's form editor doesn't force rational text formatting is beyond me.
