Description
1973 AMC Javelin AMX 360ci (believed to be original motor) 4 Speed car that runs and drives very good for it's age.
I have owned this car for 2 years now and in that time was able to clean all the fuel system out, replacing the previously installed electric fuel pump and rebuilt the carbureator.
Replaced the points ignition with a petronix unit and installed a rebuilt alternator.
FIRED RIGHT UP !! It still fires up with one turn of the crank. (cold or hot)
Have changed the oil numerous times using only oils with zinc additives. Has flushed out very nicely..idle oil pressure 30-40 psi/ 3500 rpm up 50-60 psi.
I believe this still has the original Borg Warner T10 4 speed . Clutch seems good and the T10 is good shifting with the exception of 3rd gear, where you have to take a slower shift approach to avoid the dredded grind. Not sure if it's syncronizer or a misadjusted shift rod linkage. As long as you hesitate to 3rd gear it goes right in. SoI always hesitate.
Ball joints, Tie rod ends , shocks, pitman arm, alignment, tires all equaled a very good track down the road with one finger steering. (just like the old days).
Rear end fluid changed using posi lube as this is a Dana rear. Not sure of the ratio, but you sure get busy in a fun way.
Stopping power is adequate with all the brake system gone thru.lines replaced etc., but it is still four way drums. They'll stop the car good without pulling,
I have taken this car as far as I can, the rest is up to the next owners. I must say this car is truly a blast to drive.
It still needs alot of work though:
Paint and body - As the pictures show the clear coat is gone and peeling. I believe this was a Cordova Brown car from the factory. I can also see a layer of green paint under the red in certain areas. I can't see the brown anywhere.
- there is rust/bubbling in the areas pictured - pass rear quarter/driver fender on top/driver lower rocker panel
- trunk is good, floor pans look good and frame rails are good
- glass is good except the windshield which is cracked and will need replaced. windows operate but are loose
- bumpers are good driver quality
- lighting is all operational
Interior - Good seat covers, carpet and door cards. Serviceable dash and intrumentation but-
- Speedometer is the only gauge that works on the rallye dash, I have the resto decals for the dash, but it will need a new printed circuit board.
- All the trim pieces are there for the door cards and dash, it all just needs TLC
- Shifter boot mount ring is missing
Again.I have tried to be very honest about the car and what it is. It is a blast to drive !
Thanks and Happy Bidding !
