Description
At Knucklehead Garage/Carstore we are ecstatic about this 1968
American Motors AMX. We have been in the classic car business more than 40
years, selling hundreds of classic cars, selling classics long before it became
the phenomenon it is today. I have the experience to know a quality vehicle.
Located in Grand Island Nebraska; we are in the Midwest where you can still
find a few DEALS. Check my feedback and purchase with confidence. I
will give you an accurate description. Our customers are WORLDWIDE; I look
forward to working with you in your classic purchase. The AMX is a TRUE American Sports Car that is also has low
production numbers. Only 6,725 1968 AMX’s were built, and the 2-seater version
was only produced from 1968 to 1970 with total production of 19,134 cars. This
was the height of the Performance car era and the AMX was a standout being
called by journalist one of the best looking, if not the best looking car made
in the USA. Being introduced at the Daytona International Speedway in February
1968 and also partnered with Playboy enterprises to introduce the AMX to
dealers. This AMX is number 860 of the 6,725 AMX’s built; just think this is
one of the FIRST AMX’s off the assembly line.
This AMX originated from sunny California and the body was stripped to bare metal (see pic) during the restoration. Added touches were the Front and Rear Mark Donahue Spoilers. The paint color is as unique as the AMX and is from the Dave Kendig Akzo Nobel Line and the color is officially called “Bruised”. The color looks like a pearl color, but is easy to refinish if there is a blemish.
The interior on the AMX is in good condition and appears to be completely original. The only defects are some cracking on the steering wheel and a crack in the center of the dash. The miles showing are 83,835 and could easily be actual, but cannot be verified and sold as exempt.
The original engine in the AMX was replaced with a rebuilt 390 CU IN engine that is mated to the very popular 4-speed manual transmission. The engine runs out strong and the AMX performs excellent. Power gets to the ground VIA a Posi-Trac rear end. The OEM 14” Rallye Wheels with white lettered tires complete the Factory Performance appeal.
