Loss of storage forces sale. Believe me, if I could keep it, I would!
Offering for sale my beloved little AMC Gremlin. She's a June-built, Big Bad coloured car. The car was ordered in Big Bad Green and has always been Big Bad Green. Believe it or not, from the doors back - it's original paint! The engine is coded for being built the second week of June and is believed to be the original engine. The transmission is the upgraded 3 speed with the synchro on low. The rear end gears are 3.08:1 ratio and the entire rear end was professionally rebuilt due to a faulty carrier bearing. The exhaust is recent within a few years and the brakes were done not that long ago.
The engine runs quite well and has been upgraded with a '70-style Carter WCD two-barrel. On paper, this combination was supposed to give the 232 an astonishing 155 horsepower. Whether it did or not, it certainly made the engine run much better and infinitely more spunky! This car will flat out get up and scoot! Most fun you'll ever have with your trousers on, I always say!
The interior sports the deluxe buckets, and the deluxe interior package: carpet, package tray, glove box, custom steering wheel, upgraded door panels and even a functional low-fuel warning system!
The radio works, the heater works, all gauge and lights work. Even the cigarette lighter and glove box light work! The headliner was replaced with a later Gremlin piece as the original "Rambler Waffle" was starting to sag and rot. Around the same time, I sanded down and repainted a lot of the interior metal and trim. The plastic in the cargo area is also from a later Gremlin, but many will be hard pressed to spot the difference. Since nobody makes a seat cover for a Gremlin, I do have a gorgeous set from an AMX that are included with the car. It should be a snap to find someone to redo the back seat to match the new fronts.
Outside, the grille is in very nice shape. It does have one screw hole that has pulled through, but that could be an easy fix. There are no major chips, cracks or damage. It is however, also from a later 71-73 Gremlin. The '70 grille is a one-year only piece and impossible to find. Only real Gremlin fanatics will be able to tell the difference.
Yes, that IS an 8-track player under the package tray. It is a Craig Quadraphonic deck on a pull-out slide (remember those?). It works perfectly as well do the four matching Craig brand speakers in the door panels and in the rear of the car. If you want it, I will leave it in the car.
The Gremlin is an almost 50 year old car; and with that comes 50 yearsworth of use. There will be some rust to attend to mostly in thesheetmetal around the rear wheels. Also, the cargo area floor isbubbling in the corners. There is some surface rust on the frontfenders as well. But other than that, the car has held up amazinglywell. The floors are solid, the rockers are solid. Inner fenders, firewall and troughs are all spotless. This is a great basis for arestoration that you could even drive around for a while if you wanted! Before I forget, there is a large crack on the drivers side of thewindshield. It started small, but grew.
I have a box full ofspare parts that go with the car. Things like the spare tire cover, theaforementioned AMX seat covers and I even have a really nice set of 14x6Magnum 500's I'd been hanging onto that would look amazing on the car. Those go too. There's also miscellaneous other bits like some kickpanels, a headlight ring, and other little goodies.
Let's be serious about this now and recognize that this is a very rare, iconic piece of Americana. Even people who aren't into cars recognize a Gremlin. Now add in the fact that it's a first-year, Big Bad Coloured, original engine car! For all we know, this could be the last surviving Big Bad Green Gremlin! I've never seen another factory-painted one!
If you're from the US, getting a car of this age across the border is simple. Stop at the border, show them your bill of sale, verify the VIN, *Stamp*Stamp* and you're on your way.
Live too far away to drive it home? Well, I happen to know a fellow who ships vehicles as his business and he offers great rates! I can put you in contact with him for a quote.
Payment can be done with Cash, Bank Transfer or attractive daughters.
I can store the car on the property for 30 days while you arrange transport or pickup. I can hold it longer if necessary.
Contact me if you have any questions, concerns, comments or you just want to email me and call me a lunatic. You wouldn't be the first.
