Description
This is a fun wagon that garners attention everywhere we drive it the issue is that we just don't drive it often enough.
1963 AMC 550 Cross Country wagon. Hopefully the photos tell the story, this car is in wonderful "driver" condition. I purchased it on impulse two years ago for my wife after she mentioned how cute it was a couple of times. It has the 196 cubic inch straight six engine with "three on the tree" manual transmission and while she's driven stick before, she's never gotten comfortable with the column shifting or the vacuum assisted wipers. Our loss in your gain.
Car starts, runs and drives. It has a few minor "doesn't get driven often enough" issues. The speedometer cable is sticky so the needle jumps. A previous owner added a toggle switch under the dash for the defroster/heater fan. The parking brake release cable is loose. The AM radio works intermittently. The fuel gauge doesn't function. These are all issues that I believe to be minor and would be eager to tackle if we used it more than a few times a year.
The car was resprayed at some point in the past. Great "driver condition" paint with only a few chips. Stainless has a few dings and scratches. Rubber mat flooring is overall in very good condition, a few spots of wear in the rear seat area. The interior is a wonderful vintage teal/aqua color. The seats and door panels may have been redone but look very original. Matching carpet in cargo area. Obviously the wheels and tires are modern aftermarket additions.
This car starts conversations every time we drive it and everywhere we go. We've run out of inside storage for vehicles so we're selling a couple of the cars we don't utilize enough.
Please ask any questions, I'll do my best to answer them!
