Description

Up for bid is this really cool Humvee that I took on trade earlier this year. I've used it all year for work and play. Hauling logs out of the woods. Recovering stuck Jeeps or simply going out for ice cream with the top off. Few car shows and a parade. I've owned some pretty sweet vehicles in my day and none of them have ever gotten as much attention as this machine. Thumbs up for days and the envy of all Jeep drivers.
The previous owner performed extensive maintenance and upgrades to the vehicle which we will go into further below. It starts, runs, drives and stops very well. Fuel mileage? Everyone asks that. I have no idea and don't care. I've hit 70 mph merging on the highway once but I only drove 60 mph max due to the 3 speed transmission and bias ply tires. With no tach, I played it safe and kept the revs down. Personally, I really like driving it. It's a blast and has been super reliable. But, truth be told, I don't really need it. I will be moving at the end of the year, which is what forces the sale.
Now about all the hoopla on Humvees and titles. This vehicle was purchased from the government without the SF97-1 form, which means it did not come with a paper title. (You can apply for one if you really want to). However, the previous owner got around this by registering the vehicle in VT, because newly registered vehicles older than 15 years old are not issued a title. Nor, is one needed to register it. And, you do not have to be a resident of the state. I live in Ohio. This also gets around the "off-road only" title that many other states typically issue. So, like the previous owner, I followed suit and received my plates in less than 2 weeks. I suggest you do the same. So many people get caught up on this. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Register it in VT. NO BS. It works.
I use Hagerty for my insurance and it's only $250 for the year. That is full coverage.
Highlights
What really makes this Humvee stand out are the 42" tires. This is achievable with a 4" spring lift kit. Now what's really cool is that the springs were custom made with a lower spring rating. So, it rides better than a stock Humvee. Previous owner says the spring rating was 750 lbs/in. So basically it rides like a 1 ton truck. Not a Mack truck.
Equipment
6.2L diesel (NA), 3 speed auto (Turbo 400), power brakes, power steering, artic heater, 4 Hi, 4 Hi Lock, 4 Low, artic cab kit (installed currently), 2 soft doors, 2 panels that make it a pickup truck, rear seat belts, summer mirrors, I have the wood plank side panels and the canvas top with bows. But do not have the troop seating.
Modifications
I personally have performed zero modifications during my ownership. Everything was done by the previous owner. Here is the list he gave me
New glow plugs, new smart box glow plug controller, newer transfer case, new 4" lift springs, 42x15-16.5 Super Swamper TSL, 24 bolt bead lock wheels, LED headlights, Green air filter, rear seat belt kit, 600w block heater, new fuel filter and water separator, rear block cooling kit, new shocks, new wipers, new draglink, new idler arm, new pitman arm, new tie rods, new ball joints, new cooling fan blade. All of this work was performed in the last 2 years.
Known Flaws
Sometimes the starter pinion gear retracts too early. Meaning, you turn the starter over and the starter retracts the pinion gear too early before the engine has had a enough time to turn fast enough to start. But, on the rare occasion it does this, the truck ALWAYS starts on the second try. Never been enough to bother me as it is very rare and most of the time starts on the first turn. Just being transparent.
During my ownership, the parking brake has started to weaken. I would not suggest parking on any hills. It will roll slowly. So, I've always done my best to park it on flat ground or chock the wheels if necessary. I tried to adjust it by turning the knob on the parking brake lever but it didn't seem to help. Again, being fully transparent.
TBH, it could probably use an alignment. It will slightly drift right if you let go of the wheel. Then again, that could be the big tires following the crown of the road too. But, I always need to apply a slight left steer to center the truck down the road.
Other
Please visit this link to YouTube for a cold start -->
have a TON of spare parts for it. I have the original springs, all the original electronics the previous owner replaced, bulbs, filters, air filter, a brand new key ignition, a transfer case, insulation, dog house, 24v to 12v converter, rear bumper and brackets, etc. It will all be packed into the Humvee prior to pickup or shipping. On that note, the truck weighs 5,450 lbs. I weighed it at work one day on a calibrated vehicle scale.
Please feel free to reach out regarding additional information, pictures or video. If you are near by, feel free to stop by, take a look and a test drive.
Full disclosure, shipping is on you. And, I will only release the vehicle until the purchase price has cleared my bank account. Damn near got burnt many years ago on a motorcycle. Bless that truck driver for calling to check if it was OK to drop it off 30 minutes before he delivered it!
Sorry for being so long winded but I just want to be as transparent as possible. I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday season! You won't be disappointed!
