Aston Martin : Other Lagonda

Designed by William Towns, October 1976 saw Aston Martin reveal a striking new model, a new 4 door Lagonda with innovative solid state digital instrumentation, a futuristic concept at the time. Lagonda created a wave of publicity for the company and the order book filled rapidly, particularly from the Middle East market.
With initial production levels at one a week it wasn’t until 1979 that the first car was delivered. In 1982 the Lagonda was finally cleared for sale in the USA. A total of 645 chassis were built before the end of production in 1989. Each car required 2,200 man-hours to build and only about 25 were built per year for the U.S. market.
The Lagonda is powered by a 5.4 litre, DOHC V8, mated to an automatic transmission, that propels it to it's 148-MPH top speed. Although he engines were cast off-site, they were machined in-house in the Engine Shop and each one was hand-built by a single builder, who spent more than a week preparing each engine. The specific engine builder's name, Fred Waters for this example, is recorded on a small plaque affixed on top of the engine.
This particular example is finished in Classic White with ultra-soft Tan leather inside. All electronics and mechanical systems work flawlessly on this perfectly-preserved classic.
