This is a final edition replica of the Lamborghini-engined S8 converted to a unique spec. It was car number 15 of 15 S8 replicas (seeThe car is a superb 2005 model-year (late 2004 registered) 3.7 V8 MPI (which is a lively and satisfying small block V8). These units are well known for their robust and reliable "bullet proof" reputation. This one has recently had the cambelt and water pump changed as well as a full transmission overhaul including oil and filters replaced to the manufacturer standards (without the potentially harmful solvent reverse-flush). The car offered here does 29.8 mpg on a reasonable run (no exaggeration, it's on the computer as an average over 500+ miles), and that makes it cheaper to run than many popular diesels including the auto transmisson Land Rover 2.7 TDI (which many have tried to get more than 25 mpg in) as well as many BMWs, Mercedes and other big diesel Audis. To ensure that this engine is operating to its most efficient, we have fully tested the main functions of the unit including vacuum integrity, the torque flap arms (which can fail, usually on higher mileage cars), the air filter type and seating, the coil packs, and the timing belt fitment. If good fuel economy indicates an engine at the peak of its condition then this engine is spot on.
With a light alloy cylinder block (just like the S8 Lamborghini engine), you do actually feel quite a punch if you ask that of it, - it helps that the car is an all-aluminium construction and very grippy through the Quattro all wheel drive system. In sport mode, the 6 speed ZF Tiptronic box (same as in S8) has very nice ratios and this car is fitted with S8-style instanteneous F1 paddle shifts on the steering wheel. As already mentioned the box has had a complete overhaul with brand new fluid, output tests, gaskets and filters, all from a reputed ZF specialist which (unlike some), knows how do do this properly.
You have to see and try this car to appreciate what a one-off it is. The combined effect of all the above makes for supercar satisfaction without the bad conscience.
The car has only just had its fourth service. The V8 engine is known for its reliability which is partly because it's a low-revving unit. Around 85 mph in non-sport mode, the engine only turns at approximately 2500 rpm due to a long legged 6th gear (so half the revs/wear of something smaller).
Although I've had to register it in my name due to the new tax laws which can't be got around as far as I know it was just a three previous owner car (plus being registered as an Audi demonstrator). There is full dealer service history with it plus official mileage verification on the MOTs and service records. The car is fully HPI clear.
This car has now had all the well known A8 issues attended to such as electric rear hand brake calipers, air suspension pump, battery regulator, DVD navigation drive, MMI screen lifting mechanism, engine coil packs, and does not have the security flaw which has been making big publicity recently where crooks are scanning keyless entry cars and cloning signals etc..
