Description
This is the best all round car I have owned (e55 amg, porsche targa, toyota prius, audi 4, sl300). I bought it with 70 000 miles on the clock 5 + years ago and it has now done 166 000. The car drives exceptionally well and is just as quick and comfortable as the day I bought it. Have driven to south of france and back with 4 children and no complaints regarding comfort or space (detachable audi a8 specific roofbars included). The car has a new MOT as of 3rd November 2015 with no advisories (see photo).
Here is the list of reasons why you might not want to buy it, most related to sensors. There are so many lights that come on in the dashboard intermittently (parking brake ABS traction control, windscreen wash, emissions control), that it can feel like Christmas. None have made it fail MOT and mechanics are not willing to speculate that expensive spare part or sensor x or y will definitely resolve this. The parking sensors beep too much because one of them needs pulling out by a few centimetres after hitting pheasant (needs suction tool), which also removed a grill at front, see photo. During my trip to France there was an encounter with the cheapest car in Monaco, a renault twingo, that left damage to driver side headlights but they work fine, see photo. The sat nav has never worked properly. The menu display screen only talks to you in German now. There can be a few squeaks coming from under the dashboard, more pronounced when suspension is higher on windy roads. (not mice).
I just continue to drive car (12 000 miles last year), sound system is fabulous and air suspension lift is great for a bumpy drive. 4 wheel drive outstanding. But I am now bored with all these lights and beeps and feel that the car deserves somebody with more patience or intelligence having served me very well.
Service indicator showing it needs one in next 1000 miles.
Will consider part exchange for smaller automatic.
