Description
This car is a pleasure to drive - smooth, quiet, powerful, comfortable and handles superbly. It has given me about 10,000 miles of trouble-free enjoyment across the UK and Europe. Unfortunately I can't afford to keep two cars and this one is too good to use for commuting, so it's time to let someone else to enjoy it.
The car is in excellent condition throughout. The blue leather interior is virtually unmarked and the silver exterior looks very presentable. Mechanically it is also very good. The engine starts instantly, runs smoothly and pulls from virtually any speed in any gear. The clutch and gear change are crisp and precise. Steering is precise and predictable. I had the wheel alignment checked and adjusted earlier this year and the car corners perfectly.
Tyres and brake pads and discs were replaced by the previous owner shortly before I bought it but I am a slow driver and very rarely brake or corner hard so these have lots of life left in them.
The car has a near-complete service history; the service book indicates it has had a service annually, mostly in official Audi dealers. The previous owner spent a great deal of money having this car serviced: at 76,000 miles a main Audi dealer fitted a new cam belt, tensioners, water pump, brake pads and discs and a lot of other parts, as well as an oil and filter change. Total cost was almost £2000!
At 87,000 miles, also at a main Audi dealer, the car was serviced again and the brake fluid was renewed.
This service history, and the generally cared-for appearance and feel of the car, are the reasons I bought it. Many TTs have not been treated so well and are showing their age - this is a good one!
I serviced the car myself in June this year at 97,000 miles. Oil, oil filter, air filter and coolant have been renewed. The car passed its MoT test the following day first time with no advisories or comments. The tester (an Audi enthusiast) remarked on how good the condition of the underside of the car is, and on how effective the brakes are. I think it has spent most of it's life in the London area and has probably not been exposed to much road salt or sea air.
The car has the original service book, invoices for all service work in the last few years, and MOTs going back several years.
The car is totally unmodified and apart from service items, appears to be as it left the factory. The original Bose sound system is fitted, and fully functional - great sound quality. The original Audi handbook, spare keys and emergency key, tool kit, spare wheel, first aid kit and emergency warning triangle, are all in perfect order and in the correct places. Small details, but they do show the car has been cared for. They will add to the car's value in future.
It does have a couple of faults:
- The ABS and ESP warning lights come on occasionally. Fault code indicates the longitudinal sensor is the cause. This part costs around £60 on ebay.
- The stereo cover does not lock into the closed position.
All-round condition is excellent but of course it has some scuffs and scratches and stone chips on bumpers and lower body panels which are very difficult to avoid in day-to-day use. There is a blemish on the driver's door below the mirror. There are some scratches and small stone damage to the windscreen. The wheels have some damage where they have contacted kerbs. The interior is in very good condition with no damage to the leather, door panels or headlining. The carpet is clean and in very good condition except for a small area which has worn due to drivers left heel contact during clutching and braking. I have fitted new mats which will protect the carpet in future.
Airconditioning works perfectly - I took it to the south of Spain in summer and it works superbly. Electric mirrors, windows, boot release, heated seats, remote central locking, heated rear window, wipers, trip computer and other items function exactly as they should.
