Description
This 1957 Auto Union DKW Munga 4 was acquired by the current owner in August 2017. The vehicle was purchased from a dealer in Spain; and imported by ship and enclosed trailer to Tennessee. Powered by a two-stroke, 900cc 3-cylinder engine paired to a 4-speed manual gearbox. Produced over a 13-year period, the Munga 4 (derived from a German phase meaning “multi-purpose universal cross-country car with all-wheel drive”) was the smallest variant of the three models manufactured by Auto Union and used often in both light military and civilian capacities.
The vehicle was used sparingly by the previous owner’s grandfather who owned the car since the 1960s, the cream finish shows well with some surface rust present on the underside. Standard controls and instrumentation remain in place. The odometer currently shows 91,650 kilometers which translates to about 56,949 miles. Four place seating shows typical wear, but shows no significant of rips or seam separations.
Power for the Munga is provided by the same two-stroke, 900cc 3-cylinder engine as found in the DKW 3-6. This example is believed to remain mostly stock, apart from the installation of an electric fuel pump by the previous owner. Though service records are minimal, the vehicle was serviced in 2017 by the dealer in Spain with a new fuel pump, new spark plugs, and fluid change to the 4-speed manual gearbox.
The current owner has driven the Munga a few times on and around his property in Tennessee. It has not been driven in several months, but has been kept clean and dry. The Munga is being sold as is. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I can provide more details and pictures on request.
