Rust and accident free California car!!! 1974 BMW 2002 tii in Sienna Brown Metallic. I’ve owned this car for about 4 years and I’m selling this and my 1982 911SC Targa because I purchased a 1960 356 Porsche.
I purchased this car from California in 2015. Documentation goes back on this car to 1993. In 1995 the car had a complete engine rebuild, interior refurbish and repaint. At that time an e21 BMW 5 speed transmission was installed. This is probably the best upgrade that you can do to a 2002 series car. The mileage on the car was 108k at that time. The five-digit Odometer shows 36717. Receipts show the cars mileage, so I think it has 236717miles on the car.
Exterior-This is the first year of the square taillight and large “diving board bumpers” I purchased the car with an aftermarket “moon roof” that was installed in 1984, per the paperwork included in the car. During my ownership I had the sunroof removed and a panel from a 1974 BMW 2002 grafted into the roof. Also, a conversion kit to euro type bumpers on the car. Only the roof, small holes for the old bumpers and some small scaling on the rear window repaired and painted. The car still has bumps and bruises but no rust. I also put on euro type front blinkers and Alpina “Steelies” with new tires.
Interior- When I purchased the car it had e21 Recaro seats in front. I removed them and sourced a whole 1974 interior. The seats were in great shape but very faded. I cleaned and dyed them to match the door panels and they look very close. I also took out the old carpet and installed an Etsy carpet kit. All switches, gauges, tach, clock, lighter ect work on this car. I added the “5” on the dash to signify the five speed. New headliner installed when the roof was completed and new window rubber and chrome locking strips used.
Motor-I’ve kept the motor up on all its routine maintenance. It drives very well with great power and no hesitation. The previous owner’s receipts show lots of maintenance and replacement work on brakes, top end, shifter, shocks ect… The dealer installed Behr A/C works well but remember that it is over 40 years old and just has the console vents. It had a complete service and valve adjustment less than 500 miles ago.
Suspension and brakes. I had the breaking system and all lines replaced. Also new lowering springs and gas shocks were just installed lowering the car 1.5 inches. No wobbles and the car breaks straight.
All glass is clear and crack and chip free. The tool kit is still with the car.
It is a matching numbers motor, but obviously not the transmission. If you have ever owned a 2002 you know driving one on the freeway with a 4 speed would drive you crazy. With the 5 speed you can drive the car at 75 mph all day with no issues. I’ve had this car at 90 mph with no issues and more available speed within it capability.
For an additional price I have period correct Alpina (see photobucket) rims for sale. Stock length wheel studs and rear bumper (euro) license plate light will be included in the sale.
Fly in and drive home. Please call me at 503-970-2276 (Portland OR number, but I live in North Carolina) if you have any questions.
