BMW E30 series is a compact executive car range with rear wheel drive sold from 1982 and replaced by the BMW E36 series in 1992,
At the launch of E30 range, the 316, such as this was powered by a 1,766cc M104 4 cylinder in line engine fed by a carburettor, producing 90PS. This engine allowed BMW to offer a cheaper, entry level car in the range. Confusingly, the 318 had the same M10 engine, but with fuel injection increasing power to 105ps. The E30 was the first 3 series car to be fitted with an onboard service indicator, consisting of an LED barograph plus inspection, ABS and Oil service warning light.
Both manual and automatic transmissions were offered at launch, this car has the rare 3 speed automatic gearbox, manufactured by ZF, which was only available from 1982 to 1984. according to information site, how many left, there are 64 316 3 speed autos left in the UK today
the car, finished in burgundy red metallic with beige cloth trim, was supplied new by BMW Dealer MLG of Chiswick. It was registered in august 1984 to its one and only owner, a lady, in Ashford Middlesex. The car has now covered only 31,442 miles in its 29 years and the original condition is a credit to its owner,
BMW in the 80s were not generous with their options-although everything was available at price. This car is equipped with factory fitted slide/tilt steel sunroof with BMW wind deflector, a pioneer KE-8300 FM radio/cassette with matching shelf mounted rear speakers, rubber rear spoiler, front fog light, electrically adjustable door mirrors, rear inertia seat belts and mud flaps.
As you would expect of a lovely condition one owner car with such low mileage, all books ate still complete in the original wallet. Even the pioneer radio book and the fitting instructions for the BMW sunroof deflector are still present
