Description
BMW E36 328i M-Sport Coupe (Straight 6)
Welcome to my action for my own BMW 328i, Genuine, M-Sport Coupe.
I have owned this car a little over a year purchasing it as a bit of a Man toy!
Whilst it's secondary use was to be a fast road car meaning it needed to be kept road legal, its primary reason for purchasing was for me to learn drifting in.
This is a cracking little car which looks really menacing, which I love.
Finished in metallic black with the much sort after black head-lining.
Not just after-market badged as an M-Sport but the real McCoy (proven on the log book) with beautifilly crafted M-Sport twisted side skirts and front bumper which it shares with the E36 M3.
MOT is November 2016 and passed with flying colours last year.
Being a Drift car, most of the interior has been removed to save on weight. The two front seats and belts remain along most of the front interior trim as you will see from the photos. The airbag module has been removed but I still have it so could be refitted with ease if desired.
I purchased the car pretty much set up. The previous owner had never drifted the car but had fitted all the fundamental Hop-Up parts so was ready to Drift, perfect for me!
Standard 2:93 Diff which has been welded
Adjustable Coli-Overs
Deep Dish drift Steering Wheel
Genuine BMW M-Sport 17" Alloy Wheels (not staggered versions) with 4 BRAND NEW Maxxis tires fitted (only covered 105 miles)
4mm Rack Spacers fitted
After-market M3 Wing Mirrors.
Brand new battery
New radiator
New Viscose fan
New water pump
New Thermostat
The rear arches are a little rusty, one more so than the other (standard for E36's) but the rest of the body is all in good condition with a sturdy corrosion free chassis. The car is far, far prettier and in much better condition that your typical drift cars and this is how I wanted to keep it. It has never been crashed, knocked or bumped since I've owned it. Basically if I had if I had bought a dog-rough car the wife would never have allowed it in the drive-way!
Air condition works well. Digital dash computer is a bit pixelated (again common)
The car has covered 156,000 miles and has had 8 owners in its 19 years of life.
Now for the not so good part.
Whilst the car starts, runs and operates fine, it has over-heated a number of times when drifting recently.
When I say drifting, I have only been a couple of times and have only really used the car in the play-pens, so the car has not been driven hard by any means.
The car looses water with no visible sign or trace of where it is going and when this happens it is often coupled with cold air starting to come through the interior heater vents signifying air in the system?
The first time this happened I went out and replaced all the parts which I thought might cause the car to over-heat. I replaced the Viscose fan coupling, radiator, water pump and thermostat. Sadly this has not fixed the issue. Last time I drifted, the car overheated a few times in the day causing the need to fill the radiator with water each time.
Before I drove home at the end of that day, I filled the car back up with water, bled the system and it drove home perfectly! A lovely warm cabin and constant engine all the way home for over an hour! It seems to drive fine under normal conditions, it's when you start to rev it hard for extended periods whilst going sideways. I am no mechanic nor have I had the car looked at by a professional at this point but my suspicion is that it could be a head gasket issue. There are no visible signs of water in the oil or oil in the water so I am at a loss.
I'm gutted in all honesty. If I had the mechanical know-how I would do the work on the car myself. Sadly I don't have the knowledge so have decided to sell the 328i.
These cars are fast becoming rare and the value increasing on them all the time. They are one of the easiest and best cars to drift due to their rigidity and powerful engines.
I will be sad to see it go in all honesty.
Please feel free to ask any questions.
