Description

1983 BMW 320iS 80,000 original miles. The BMW 320iS or Sport model had a list of options including Recaro seats, 5 speed manual transmission, sunroof, leather wrapped sport wheel, limited slip differential, larger front sway bar, a rear sway bar (which the base model did not have at all) fog lights and a special front air dam. I bought mine from the original owner who purchased it from Bob Smith BMW in Woodland Hills. After a few years of enjoyment he was involved in a motorcycle accident in which both his legs were injured. Doctors told him he may not walk again, but he eventually proved them wrong and in his optimism, kept his BMW with the clutch.
I have made some modifications to this vehicle to improve its handling and safety. First, I did not like the fact that the only adjustment allowed by the stock front suspension was toe, and lowering it would cause negative camber which I personally do not like. So I designed and built a custom suspension front and rear using BMW 735i struts and brakes in the front and 633i struts and brakes in the rear. This gave me larger four piston calipers, which I powder coated red, with vented rotors in front and disc brakes in the rear where there had been drum. And yes, the parking brake still works. I have installed Eibach Ground Control coil over springs to lower the car. I have custom made and installed a bolt in roll bar, which I painted red. The roll bar has a belt bar that is removable, in case you want to have rear passengers, and provisions for a racing seat belt harness which comes with the car. The factory seat belts are still installed and functioning. I have installed 17" BMW M3 Contour rims with 225/45ZR17 front and 245/40ZR17 rear. The rims are replicas made in France. I have made a cold air intake out of stainless and attached a K&N air filter. When I first purchased the car it had been sitting for many years and the gas tanks had rust in them and I did not like the fact that the factory design connects the two tanks with a large diameter rubber hose that runs directly over the spinning driveshaft. Catasrophic fuel loss is not an option, on the street or on the track. So I installed a fuel cell in the trunk with custom provisions for the primary in-tank fuel pump, the factory fuel level sender and the factory fuel door filler. Other custom touches are tucked front and rear bumpers, aluminum rear valance, high beam delete with screens for cold air to engine, custom stainless cat back exhaust, front and rear strut bars, battery relocated to trunk, tinted windows and new stereo. I recently painted the body in the original Alpine Weiss (alpine white). The tags are current for the next year and the title is clear of any liens. I hate to sell it.
