THE OVERVIEW
Offered for an appreciating new owner at NO RESERVE is this collectible classic 1989 BMW 635CSi coupe!
Finished in Alpine white over black leather, this last-year E24-chassis "shark" coupe has been driven just over 191,000 miles since new. Equipped with the 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION 6er is even more rare than an M6! It sports a good running 3.5 liter 208 horsepower high compression inline six cylinder mated to the factory 5 speed stick with stopping power provided by four wheel disc brakes with ABS [anti-lock]. Other features on this mostly original 635 include upgraded 17" BBS style 5 mesh wheels with good rubber, electric sunroof and windows, cruise control, HEATED electric leather seats, updated Sony CD stereo and more. It is being sold with clean and clear California title and clean accident-free Carfax report!
PLEASE NOTE: as shown in the teaser photos, I ALSO have a rust-free 1985 635csi automatic that has received a partial art car finish, a 2005 645CI coupe with a rare 6 speed manual transmission AND a 1987 535is art car and a 1984 733i art car. I will consider a package deal on two or more cars!
THE BODY AND TRIM
The exterior of this classic BMW is in good to very good 99.9% rust-free "driver-quality" condition with a nice overall shine to the paint finish. It is concourse show-quality? No. Imperfections include hazing on the aluminum bumpers, one isolated corrosion spot at the base of the rear window, front spoiler cracking and broken [fog lamps inop], curb rash and fading on the wheels, a small touched up bump on the nose and hood along with various nicks, scratches and brush touched up spots.
THE INTERIOR
As I hope is articulated in the photos, the interior of this classic shark is in decent fairly original condition overall with working sunroof and three of the four windows, electric seats with working heater, horn lights and blinkers and all of the gauges, including the odometer, in good working order with no check engine or other warning lights. Items needing attention include but not limited to seams splitting on the driver seat, heat cracks on the vinyl dash, missing hvac slider buttons, stereo powers up but no sound, leather center console area that houses seat control buttons all torn up along with miscellaneous wear and tear one would expect from a near thirty year-old car.
THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
This 1989 starts easily and runs well with good even power delivery up to the redline, smooth shifting transmission with good clutch pedal feel, straight and secure braking and respectable ride quality. Overall this is a fairly strong driving classic coupe. The e-brake does not work and it could benefit from remedying the typical 55 mph shimmy. The E39-spec wheels might need new hub-centering spacer rings and/or new control arm suspension bushings.
