Description
I purchased this car in Los Angeles three years ago with the intent to restore it. I do not have the facilities to do so, so I'm selling it. I purchased the car both because it's a relatively easy BMW to fix and I think it's gorgeous.
The Good:
-The body's in good shape. It's straight and lacks rust.
-The car has been under a cover for a year, but before it was covered it ran without an issue. The motor is strong, lacking smoke or funny noises. The engine note is really very lovely.
-According to the previous owner, the last time this car was on the road it was maintained regularly. I am by no means guaranteeing this statement to be true.
-Rear tires were replaced a year ago. They have zero miles on them.
-Lights, AC, and windows work like a charm.
The Bad:
-The transmission will need to be replaced. I believe it's a ZF 4HP22, and I've found a few examples on eBay for $350 including shipping.
-The car no longer starts, an issue I attribute to a clogged fuel pump. Spark and turnover occur just fine.
-The driver's side power seat does not work.
-The sunroof needs to be propped up. I haven't tested it, but the previous owner claimed it functions properly besides.
-The radio does not exist.
-The front tires are going to need to be replaced.
The Ugly:
-The piece of rubber underneath the front bumper is coming off on one side. A $10 Autozone kit and a bit of time can fix this.
-A piece of trim on the driver's side door is peeling off. A $10 Autozone kit and a bit of time can fix this.
-The chrome is peeling off the wheels.
-Trim surrounding the driver's side interior door handle is gone, but the door still opens.
-The trim surrounding the rear speakers is peeling off.
-The leather is worn and cracking.
-The dashboard has cracked.
-The passenger's side sunvisor has fallen off.
-The marking on the power seat buttons have worn off.
Overall, the car is in poor cosmetic shape. But this car is the best machine you can get under $1000. The body is classic and looks great. The straight-six engine has a reputation for utterly sterling reliability. It has a limited-slip differential, it's RWD, and the car can put out over 300 horsepower with a bit of work. This car, given some attention, would make somebody very happy.
