BMW Z3 wide-body convertible
in Arctic Silver with dark red/burgundy electric hood
2.8 straight-6 twin-Vanos engine, 5-speed manual
Red/black leather power heated sports seats
Lovely to drive, great looks and colour-combo and an appreciating asset (apparently). Z3s are not without their faults though and this one has some of the usual niggles but they are minor and easily and cheaply rectified at your own pace or simply just ignored. The overall and lasting impressions are the great looks, great handling, deep exhaust note and the unburstible and powerful twin-Vanos engine making the car a real delight to drive. I'd call it a modern day Austin Healey 3000 but then I'm old and you probably don't know what I'm talking about!
Everything works, electric hood, heated electric seats, lights, wipers, fortunately not too many toys or technology to go wrong. No lights on dash, recent brake and clutch fluid change, previous owner serviced so service lights are all green. Some history, BMW confirmation of early main dealer services but no stamped book unfortunately. DVLA list of previous owners names, addresses and dates included, may help you recover all the history if you're so inclined. Almost new tyres all round. See the full spec from the VIN at the bottom of the page. Includes LSD, very handy.
The niggles are:- aircon needs regassing, stiff reverse and first gear when starting from cold sometimes (disappears quickly), hood frame creaks sometimes, hood leaks occasionally, not though the fabric but near driver's windscreen/window rubber seal. Also some stone chips, rust around of mirrors and frontcorner of outer sills so will need painting or replacing, all other panels good. I intended to do themand even bought the primer and paint aerosols but too lazy, you canhave them and no doubt make a better job than I would have done. Very easy to remove the mirrors and replace the sills if you want, everything unbolts in a nice logical germanic fashion. You don't need to source the sills only from a 2.8 wide-body, the later 2000MY onwards face-lift sills regardless of engine are the same and plenty of those around c.£40. There are inexpensive/ingenious fixes for all of these issues, check out the Z3 and BMW forums, you'll find it's all quite normal for a Z3 and eminently resolvable.
Bought for my wife to learn to drive in a manual, she passed her test and has now appropriated my Z4 because it's auto and I walk to work!
