Description

OVERVIEW:
This auction is for a nice original and complete 2-owner 1952 Buick Custom Sedan with approximately 45,000 original miles. This car was built by GM Canada at the Oshawa, Ontario plant and is basically the same as the US built Special model.
It is powered by its original 263 ci. overhead valve straight 8 engine, and retains its original 3-speed manual transmission.
This car is very original, complete, unrestored and unmolested. It is a very reliable and roadworthy driver with a smooth running engine, and good road manners with a smooth ride and nice handling characteristics.
It has been a garage kept car all its life. It was sold new by Len Schmidt Motors of Walkerton, Ontario, whose dealer decal still appears on the trunk lid. It came to Alberta in 1999 and has remained in our dry climate since.
The odometer quit working just before being shipped from Ontario. An oil change sticker from Ontario dated 1997 indicates 40K miles at the time, and the owner estimates he has driven it approximately 5K miles since then.
In the care of its now elderly owner for the last several decades, it has been a reliable occasional driver with regular maintenance and routine mechanical work performed by service shops as required.
Overall the car shows some wear & tear of its original miles and age, but remains a very decent looking car in good roadworthy condition.
Receipts from 2020 indicate $8K in mechanical parts and work performed in light of minimal use in recent years, and in preparation for sale.
Considering it has never been exposed to winter conditions it is absolutely solid throughout with no rust issues.
This car could be maintained and enjoyed as the survivor that it is, with minor detailing and freshening along the way, or, it would make an excellent restoration candidate given its completeness, unmolested state, and overall solid condition.
This listing provides many more details as you scroll thru. Near the end of this listing under Payment Terms you will find a link to a photo album of 147 pictures, and a brief running video.
Although border crossings remain limited to ‘essential travel’, we are still able to ship cars into the USA from Canada by way of commercial carrier and can assist with all those arrangements, including worldwide shipping.

DRIVETRAIN:
The original 263 ci. straight 8 engine is rated at 120 hp. It starts easily and is in good running condition with good oil pressure.
These Buicks have a unique hood which can be opened from either side, allowing good access to the engine compartment for servicing. With both sides unlatched it also makes it an easy task to remove the complete hood from the car. The latches have a cable release from inside the car, on both sides below the dash.
Original factory crayon markings on side of left cowl.
The engine bay’s originality just calls for a good cleaning and detailing to make all it’s features stand out.

BODY & PAINT:
There is no evidence of any major collision damage or rust out on this car. Overall, the body and original sheet metal on this car are quite straight and very solid.
There is some minor dent damage on the side of the right front fender behind the headlamp, with some damage to the grille bar end piece above the bumper. Some minor denting is also evident on the same fender behind the front wheel above the rocker molding.
Small dent on body line of right rear door.
Being as it sports its original black paint the car does have assorted minor blemishes and chips that have come from its miles and age, and we have endeavored to show these in the photo album.
There was no opportunity for a wash prior to photos so it shows a bit dusty, however, the paint still retains a good shine overall.
Very nice original finish on the painted dash and garnish moldings.
Instrument faces are very nice, as is all the interior chrome, stainless trim, and aluminum sill plates.
The steering wheel has no cracks, nice pit free chrome on the horn ring, and a very nice original emblem button.
Real nice original molded floor mats are in great shape with no tears, holes or wear.
In short, this is as nice an original interior as you could hope to find in a car from this period. Simply calls for a good scrubbing of the mats and a bit of very light cleaning to be very welcoming and comfortable.
The windshield and all other window glass is in good condition.
All glass felts and whiskers are good original, most weather-strips still soft, pliable, and in good serviceable condition. Same for the window rubber seals.
The same wonderful original condition carries over into the trunk area which retains its original patterned matting, side liners, and jack.

ELECTRICAL:
Wiring on the car is original and in good serviceable condition. New Interstate 6-volt deep cycle battery installed last year.
The gauges are in really nice condition and in working order.
The clock is not working, likely just needs cleaning.
Original radio delete car.
The park light and tail light lenses are plastic and in good condition.
Right brake light not working at time of inspection.

BRIGHTWORK:
All external chrome and stainless trim is on the car and in overall good condition, with nothing missing.
Front bumper, guards, and park light housings are in nice original condition with good shine and show no rust.
The rear bumper is straight and free of damage but does have small spots of minor surface rust starting to show. Minor ding to the right rear guard.
All the original vertical grille bars and main horizontal Buick Eight scripted bar are very nice and straight with great shine.
The 2 curved end bars which round the front fenders are pot metal, left is nice, right is damaged.
Other chrome plated pot metal items are overall in nice condition.
No pits on the hood ornament, fender Ventiports are very nice, outer door handles good, as are emblem surrounds, tail fins, and Custom scripts on quarters.
The rear tail lamp housings have very minor pits visible.

SUMMARY:
Some TLC blended with a bit of time and effort detailing would bring this car up several notches to where it would make a very attractive and comfortable ride.
Includes its original Owner’s Guide, and a couple of original tags.
