Description
Up for sale is my one of a kind 1963 Buick Electra 225 convertible. For those who are not familiar, the 225 stands for the overall length of the car (almost 225 inches long) and at almost 19 feet, this flagship Buick absolutely commands attention. Most people refer to the 225 as the "Deuce and a Quarter” however my Buick is aptly named “Rusty” for obvious reasons.
This Buick is a VERY low mileage, solid and rust free car that still wore is factory Desert Tan paint before it was painted by the famous (or infamous) Patina Plantation. Yes, what you are seeing is actually painted and I promise you this car draws a crowd whenever and wherever she is driven. Rusty has won multiple awards and has been featured several times in various publications and photo shoots. I can’t even tell you how many times this car is approached and touched by people just wanting to confirm that the rust holes they are seeing are actually a painted illusion. I’ve seen many patina paint jobs over the years, this is hands down the most realistic I’ve seen.
The car is equipped with aluminum Billet Specialties smoothie wheels painted to match the cars “feautina” (18’s front & 20’s rear) and has air bags installed on the rear of the car with aprox 8” of travel. I have a brand new set of Ridetech “Shock-waves” that are still in the box ready to be installed on the front of Rusty to complete the air ride suspension included in the sale.
This car is equipped with its original numbers matching drive-train including the “Wildcat 445” 401 cubic inch V-8 with a single 4bbl carb. A misconception is that the 445 refers to the cubic inches of the motor in which it’s actually referencing the foot pounds of torque. The original Turbine-Drive automatic transmission works flawlessly and shifts like a dream. Both the motor and transmission have been freshened up prior to my ownership although no documentation of this was provided.
This Buick is heavily optioned with the following features including air conditioning, power windows, power locks, AM search tune radio, power trunk release, power convertible top, power leather bucket seats with center console, dual speed electric windshield wiper/washers, deluxe steering wheel with tilt, cigar lighter, step-on parking brake, dual armrests, padded dashboard, heater, defroster, glove box light, back-up lights, power steering, glare-proof rearview mirror, power brakes, parking brake signal light, adjustable speed safety buzzer, front and rear courtesy lights, two-way power seats, power vent windows, deluxe wheel covers (comes with the car), factory safety option group, factory installed accessory group options and custom moldings option. Like I said, she is heavily optioned.
This car is close to flawless on the exterior as well as the interior. All the chrome is bright and glossy with almost no pitting as is all of the stainless steel trim work. The paint finish is absolutely unique and one of a kind although it can obviously be repainted to its original color for the true purest out there. All of the weather stripping is in good condition, the trunk is clean and dry with no rust; the undercarriage is solid with no visible rust found. The engine starts with a simple tap of the key and runs strong and smooth with great acceleration and the front end is tight with new ball joints and bushings recently installed. I would not think twice about driving this car anywhere with confidence as she is one of the most comfortable cars I’ve owned, let alone badass!
Listen, I understand that this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, maybe your one of those guys who hates the patina or big wheels or thinks this car is way better in her original glory and I truly respect and thank you for your views however I can tell you that if you are someone who’s not shy or doesn’t mind crowds or constant pictures, than this car is 100% perfect!
The good, the bad, the ugly:
The original carburetor has been removed and replaced with an Edelbrock 650cfm however the original part is included with the sale. I also have the original deluxe wheel covers which will be included. The A/C was blowing somewhat cold when I first bought Rusty however over the years it has slowly leaked out enough freon where the compressor no longer turns on. I would guess once the leak has been addressed and the system is recharged, all is right in the world. 99.9% of the time the top is down so A/C has never been a priority for me. AM radio works however it takes like 5 minutes for the tubes to warm up so it got turned on maybe once since I’ve owned the car. Power top has been replaced and looks/operates flawlessly. All power windows work, some are just faster than others. Reverse lights are not currently working, could be a bulb, could be a fuse or maybe a switch I’ve never looked. Wipers are lazy and work intermittently and I’m guessing it’s the switch as it’s usually resolved by playing with the switch although this car has seen rain only once since I’ve owned her. The short of it; the car is 55 years old and is not perfect so I don’t want to give any false impressions. I have an album including many photos of Rusty before she was painted (still in her factory paint), as well as during the patina paint job that I will provide the new owner.
