Description
This is a 1948 Buick Roadmaster
Sedanette (Model 76S) with the optional Dynaflow automatic
transmission.I bought this car in Arizona five years ago with the
intent of restoring it as a very nice driver. It really shouldn't
take much to polish this gem, but unfortunately, I simply don't have
the time for it in my schedule so it needs to go to a caring home.
The car is complete. It starts, runs, drives and stops well. The last previous owner rebuilt the 320ci engine and fitted a later Dynaflow dipstick tube which moved the location from under the passenger floor to the engine compartment. The carburetor and water pump were rebuilt in 2013.The fuel/vacuum pump was rebuilt in 2013 with a kit from Then & Now so it can run today's fuel, and I installed a 6V electric pump to help in hot starting conditions. The heat control valve was previously bypassed and I have removed it pending refurbishing. The temperature gauge is a temporary one, but I have a NOS unit that has not been installed.I installed new wheel cylinders, new brake shoes and a new master cylinder in 2012.The windshield wiper motor works but needs to be refurbished. The speedometer/odometer cable was snapped, thus those are inoperative.
The torque ball is leaking.I have a kit from Fatsco which I have not installed yet, as well as axle seals and other items related.
The car needs a new wiring harness throughout and remains 6V.Horns, headlights, tail lights, brake lights and instrument lights function, but other items (turn signals, clock, reverse lights, dome light, blower fan) have been disconnected. The Sonomatic radio works. The starter is strong and has new brushes, the generator has new brushes, new coil installed and a tune-up completed in 2014.
The last previous owner is responsible for the primer grey paint it currently wears, although the cowl tag indicates that this car was originally two-tone green. At some point, it was painted metallic grey and I assume that's when the current interior was installed. It is not correct but functional.Windshieldsfront and rear are in fair condition, some side windows are cracked but all crank up and down fine.
Body is straight and has minimal rust issues.Brightwork is all intact but some pieces need rework.
Comes with all the manuals I have acquired.
