Description
1938 Buick Superior Bodied Combination Coach - HEARSE. One of only 4 1938 Buick Superiors that previous owner (Collector of professional cars for over 40 years)had come across. He owned this car for 10 years prior to our acquisition in 2011.
Built on a lengthened Buick series 40 Chassis, reading 56,000 miles. Engine has been totally rebuilt with $11,000 in it, (all paperwork for proof of work will be provided as well as additional pictures).
Always in covered storage. First year that coach builder (Superior) built an all steel body. Rust free top to bottom. Most were wood framed and typically in need of extensive wood restoration. This car is 98% complete with all the hard to find parts there as well as the side moldings and trim. Side Mount cover and tail light lens missing. Car was built by Superior with Cadillac LaSalle door handles and tail lights.
Drivers interior is complete in burgundy leatherette with a few stitches giving way, but very usable to duplicate original patterns. Rear compartment has all original (however tattered) draperies and rods for all windows along with complete window shades. Original wood and leatherette flower trays for rear compartment as well as highly unusual Ambulance floor,
(3 pieces) which is laid over hearse roller floor. It has cups in the floor to hold stretcher wheels in place along with round hole for an attendant's seat for ambulance service.
Bumpers were re-chromed in the 80's and still wrapped in paper. Old US Royal tires.
Glass intact but windshield is fogged. Passenger side window is off tack but not broken.
Any questions, will do our best to answer. More pictures available to those seriously interested. Car sold with bill of sale only.
Cash (and carry!), money order, or cashiers check, or check - car released once money is secured.
