Description

This pearl white 1971 Buick Skylark GS-455 convertible, I bought in 2007, is one of 147 produced with turbo 400 automatic transmission and a total production of 165. It is a rust free (see pix) Georgia car I had media blasted and repainted, (base coat-clear coat) in its original color. The on frame restoration continued with a complete new pearl white interior.( carpet, door panels, seats, side panels, kick panels, sun visors) A new steering column and instrument cluster completed the inside work. (the speedometer reads fast, but I have new transmission speedometer gears to correct it)
The Chassis work started with a complete rebuild of the front end, all new bushings, tie rod ends, shocks, brakes, wheel bearings, universal joints, and power brake booster. The engine runs strong, and a leak down and compression tests confirmed it is in excellent condition but I added a Mallory electronic distributor for ease of maintenance and reliability. The transmission was removed and reconditioned to insure proper operation and I completely rebuilt the rear end with all bearings, ring and pinion gears, and a Eaton limited slip differential. With the exhaust manifold mounting flanges resurfaced to eliminate a irritating tic, new Pypes 21/2" exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers completed the mechanicals. Next up, all the little stuff. New door handles, door, trunk, and glove box locks, new glass for the mirrors, convertible top latches, foam for the cold air intakes, and about a million other small items were reconditioned or replaced. ( still looking for the right radio knobs) I can not tell you if the engine, transmission or mileage are correct because I do not care. It was meant to be a driver, one of eight vintage cars in my collection, not a dust collecting show car. Unfortunately, at seventy eight years old, I do not have the ambition to
take care of all of them so it's time to thin the herd. I can supply additional pictures of any areas you, as a buyer, may wish.
