Description
1958 Series 62 CoupeThis 62 year old pink Cadillac was recently removed from barn storage, where it collected dust for more than 30 years. It was last driven in 1984. Originally optioned with with air suspension, air conditioning, power windows, power vent windows, power seats, Autronic Eye--odd and unusual for a base model! The car is very complete and solid, but will need a complete restoration. No attempt has been made to start the car, but the engine does turn and is not seized. The body is fairly straight considering its age, and the car has very little rust (see details below). Floors are very solid throughout and appear to be rust-free, but a full inspection is warranted. Missing jack and spare tire. Note: A '58 Series 62 Coupe that was purchased in 1989 to serve as a parts car for this vehicle is listed separately on eBay. Both cars are co-located for pickup.
Inspection notes:
Paint:
The car was repainted at some point in the distant past. Paint is significantly scratched, and previously repaired sections are visible. Paint cannot be saved - will need complete strip, bodywork, and respray.
Body / Bumpers:
Based on the condition of the rear bumper (bent on RH side), and deck lid to rear quarter panel gaps, it appears that the car was hit from the rear (contact to bumper).
Front right bumper loose due to broken bracket. Spare Bracket in trunk is likely to replace the broken bracket.
Areas of surface rust on bumpers, but no areas of rust-through seen in quick inspection. Chrome may polish, but bumpers would need straightening and/or re-plating for restoration.
There may be areas of previous repair in the lower right rear quarter panel.
Prior and current rust/damage in lower RH door. It appears that additional holes were drilled in the lower edge of the RF door (inside door jamb), possibly to aid in drainage of water.
Previous rust/repairs in lower rear portion of RF fender
Left rear quarter panel may have had minor repair in front of wheel well.
Small areas of deep rust (no apparent holes yet) can be seen around rear window trim. Would need to very carefully remove trim to inspect full extent of rust at rear window.
Trim:
Much of the exterior Chrome is pitted and would probably need to be re-plated.
Grill is complete but has corrosion throughout (would require complete disassembly, polishing and possibly re-plating )
Belt line stainless trim and stainless trim above each wheel well is damaged. Straightening/repairs were possibly attempted at some point in the past - would need to be properly straightened and re-polished.
Glass:
All glass is present and no damage seen in inspection, however glass is very dirty. Will need cleaning for full inspection.
Interior:
Dash pad is cracked and will need to be replaced and or significantly repaired.
Headliner has damage near interior light and drivers visor, but otherwise in solid condition.
Lower section of rear seat has been replaced, and/or recovered with incorrect material that does not match the original material or pattern.
Front seat and upper reward seat looks surprisingly good for its age, but has a small area of stitching that is coming apart near the driver’s left shoulder.
Carpet was replaced with shag-type carpet.
Sold as-is. Clear title. Have keys, owner's manual, some spare tail lights, etc. Buyer assumes all shipping costs. Car will be available for pickup after sale in Ramona, Calif. Email with any questions and I will do my best to respond in a timely manner. Additional photos available upon request. Serious bidders only please.
