1948 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan

Original Condition running & driving car.
Originally from Bakersfield California & purchased in Los Angeles last year.
The Cadillac was driven in Los Angeles to the freight company for shipping
(Approximately 45 minute trip)
Engine: 346 cubic inch Flathead V8 Running nicely.
For reliability I would recommend a full service, oil, plugs points, distributor cap, ignition leads, coil etc.
Flush the radiator & put fresh coolant & rust inhibitor in.
Fan belts look pretty new.
Transmission: Hydra matic auto. Shifts smooth. Would recommend changing the transmission fluid anyway.
Keep in mid this car is 67 years old. It is really in amazing condition considering its age.
Brakes: Work ok. Four wheel drum with single line master cylinder. You can now get disk brake kits for these cars. I would recommend new flexible brake lines & a thorough check of all brake components.
Body: Overall the body is pretty straight & very solid. This car is from an inland part of California with desert like conditions. It gets very hot in Bakersfield. Paint on the roof is pealing away in some parts. The hood is very straight. Doors are all good, they open & close like a vault door. Front fenders are nice. Cadillac script emblem missing on passenger side front fender. Rear quarter panels are good, however there is one rust hole (In an odd spot about as big as a 5 cent piece) on the passenger side rear quarter just behind the rear door handle (Near the top of the quarter). There is a small amount of rust at the bottom of the rear glass window, again passenger side. The trunk is in very good condition. The spare wheel holder has a small rust hole in the very bottom. See pics. I do have many more pictures if you require more. The trunk lid is very straight & is in great condition. I have the trunk handle in a small lot of parts that come with the car. Wheel spats are in perfect condition. Floors are all very good. Rockers are in excellent condition.
The overall length of this car is 214 inches (5.4 metres long or 17 foot 8).
The wheelbase is 126 inches (3.2 metres long or 10 foot 5).
The weight of this car is 4179 pounds (Just over 2 ton).
Chrome & Stainless Trim: Front & rear bumper bars are straight with surface rust & pitting in parts. They are very solid with no rust through any part of the bars or over riders. Both front & rear licence plate holders intact on the car. Side chrome is pitted, some require replacement or rechroming. All stainless trim is complete, very nice in condition & dent free. Glass lenses are nice up front & rear tail lights are in good condition. Drivers side rear tail light opens with the push of the rear reflector to open up the tail light housing to gain access to the gas filler. All excellent working condition with correct gas cap. Both front & rear Cadillac crest badges are in great condition. Cadillac ''V'' in front & back have light pitting. Hood ornament is in good condition with light pitting. Most of the chrome items will polish up nicely. Hub caps are solid & will require rechroming. Centre cap emblems are very nice.
Chassis: The chassis is dry, clean & straight. It is all original. The car will most likely need all suspention bushes as all parts are original from 1948.
Glass: Front windsheild is two piece laminated glass. It has slight bubbling around the edges however the rubber seal is very hard. Other than that the front glass is good. Rear three piece glass is similar to the front. Again rubber seal hard around rear glass. All door glass is nice with the exception of the front quarter passenger side glass. It is cracked. I have agood replacement that comes with the car (It also has the chrome surround for the quarter glass). The passenger side front door glass is also craked. This is easy to have replaced as it is flat. All door rubbers are old & perishing. Window weather seals & felts all really need to be replaced.
Interior: The interior is all original & seats will require recovering. The sun has taken its toll on the top of the seats. There is no carpet in the front it was too far gone. Hood lining is all intact, Sun visors are also good & intact. Door cards are ok, far from perfect but usable. Steering wheel is in beautiful condition. Horn ring & steering wheel horn button are very nice. The brown painted dash is original & in very nice condition. The speedometer is near mint with no cracks or crazing, it is all very nice. All the knobs & bezels on the dash are very nice & just need a polish. I can send more detailed pictures upon request.
Tyres: This car looks fantastic with wide white wall tyres. The tyres are all ok although the spare looks like it has been there for the last 67 years. I would recommend replacing all tyres for safety reasons. You will be amazed at how nice it drives with new tyres.
Suspension: Most parts will require replacement for safety & ride quality. Tie rod ends, ball joints & suspension bushes would all be recommended to replace. Note many of these items may be replaced over time. Once they are done you will get many miles of enjoyment out of this car.
Electrical: All components are original & in working condition. This car was ordered with a radio. It also has a clock on the dash (Not working & missing hands).
The Cadillac is a very original car that has not been messed with. It really is a time capsule.
It is a great car to do a light mechanical restoration on. Whilst enjoying the patina of 67 years of wear & tear. It is also a great candidate for complete restoration.
The car has import approval in my name so it can be registered in Australia.
The car does not come with a RWC.
The car is located in Fawkner Victoria 3060. 10 mins from Tullamarine airport.
