Description
2006 Cadillac STS-V with 76,000 miles
This 2006 Cadillac STS-V was used by Arrowhead Cadillac near Phoenix Arizona for 2 years before being purchased by its current owner in2008. The vehicle has been operated in Pennsylvania by the current owner since2008. It has been garaged for its entire ownership and was not operated during winter months. It has been maintained at or above manufacture specifications and there are no services due. A full clean Carfax report is included in the images and available upon request.
The car is finished in Black Raven over a light grey interior, and power is provided by a factory hand built supercharged 4.4L Northstar V8paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2006 model year was the first for the STS-V and features metal chrome mesh grilles, styled bumpers and side skirts, a raised hood, rear spoiler, and unique badging. Additional equipment includes fog lamps, high-intensity discharge headlamps, a sunroof, and power-adjustable self dimming side mirrors and rain sensing windshield wipers
The car comes equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires that are less than 1 year old. Factory 10-spoke alloy wheels measure 18″ in the front and 19″ rear. Braking is handled by Brembo four-piston calipers with 355mm rotors in the front and 365mm rotors out back. The pads are approximately 2 years old.
The cabin features heated front and rear seating upholstered in Light Gray leather and suede with matching carpets, and real wood veneers accent the dash, center console, and door panels. Amenities include push-button start, power-adjustable front seats, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 15-speaker Bose sound system, and navigation. The keyless entry system will automatically adjust seating position, steering wheel, mirrors, climate control and radio presets depending on which key fob is used.
A multifunction heated steering wheel frames a V-branded tachometer and a 160-mph speedometer along with gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature.
All manuals including a 3 volume service manual will be provided to the new owner. In addition a car cover will be included in the sale
The supercharged 32-valve LC3 Northstar V8 displaces 4.4 liters and was hand-assembled at GM’s Performance Build Center located in Wixom, Michigan.
To ensure tight tolerances and strength, the block of the 4.4L is sand-cast, compared to the die-cast block of the standard Northstar engine. The deck of the new block is semi-closed, meaning that the ends of the cylinder head decks of each bank are connected to each other by trusses. The trusses add rigidity to the block and cylinders.
The Roots-type supercharger was chosen for its combination of instant response and low parasitic losses. A Roots-type supercharger uses two“ twisted” helical rotors that compress intake air and force it into the intake of the engine. The new larger rotor set is exclusive to the Northstar V8 SC.
The supercharger rotor housing is integrated to the intake manifold in one-piece casting, which saves space and improves the flow of the intake charge. The manifold/housing module also contains four high efficiency water-to-air intercoolers that cool the charge after the supercharger compresses the air. These Laminova intercoolers are tubes with very fine external fins that provide for both heat transfer and damping pressure pulses from the supercharger to reduce noise.
The variable valve timing (VVT) uses continuously variable vane-type cam phasers on all four camshafts. These hydraulically controlled phasers vary the duration that the valves are open in relation to the intake and exhaust cycles of the engine, depending on engine speed and load. The intake valves are timed independently of the exhaust valves with the Northstar VVT system. As a precaution all 4 VVT actuators were changed out when the valve cover gaskets were replaced 2 years ago.
Compared to a standard Northstar engine the new block is designed taking advantage of extra structure to improve strength and rigidity. The pistons are also stronger, as are the connecting rods. The wrist pin bushings are also enlarged for greater strength. Overall, half of the parts for the supercharged engine are new compared with the standard Northstar engine.
Further enhancements for the supercharged engine include a lubrication system modified for oil cooling jets that target the underside of the pistons. This cools the piston crowns, allowing more spark advance to increase engine output. To handle the extra heat generated by boosting the 4.4L supercharged engine, the water jacket in the block has been modified for more efficient flow of coolant. To ensure that the greater combustion chamber pressures are contained, the head gaskets are advanced multi-layer steel (MLS). The layers are coated to ensure sealing even the smallest of pores in the aluminum.
Other development specific to the supercharged engine was extensive flow and noise tuning. The intake system uses quarter-wave tuners to reduce noise without affecting airflow. The air cleaner itself is optimized for better flow, and the mass airflow sensor is also a minimally restrictive design. To increase exhaust flow, the exhaust ports in the cylinder heads are polished by a special process that forces an abrasive compound through the passages, called “extrude-honed”. The valve seats are composed of an advanced copper-infiltrated material, which transfers the heat to the cooler cylinder head evenly. This allows the valves to withstand the higher thermal loading that supercharging produces.
In service the LC3 Northstar engine has proven to be extremely reliable. Images from a valve cover gasket replacement 2 years ago show how clean the engine has been kept internally. The reliability of this vehicle has been exceptional as is typical for most STS-Vs.
