Description
Here is a 1972 Chevrolet Blazer for your consideration. This is a 4x4 model with the original 350 V8 4bbl engine and TH350 Automatic transmission, NP205 case. It has disk brakes on the front and power steering. Considered by many to be the best year K5 ever built. This is a very special Blazer here. I am the 3rd owner of this truck. The second owner had it rite about a year and didn't do anything mentionable to it. The Blazer was bought new in a small Montana town about 240 miles from where I live. It spent it's life at a cabin house where it was used very sparingly. The odometer shows 52,538 currently and is no doubt the original miles. The second owner told me that the original owners used the Blazer in the summer months while visiting the cabin up until the late 1990's. At which time it was left to sit in the garage untouched.
It is by far one of the most original unmolested survivor Blazers iv'e ever had the privilege of owning. I have owned almost 100 of these 69-72 Blazers.
The Body on this truck is what catches one's eye over anything else about the truck. The lack of rust and body damage is pretty amazing. The fenders, quarters, floors, windshield frame, cowl, body mounts are all rust free. The passenger door has 2 or 3 little bubbles on the outside of the door that are the size of a pencil tip, very small and at the rear lower of door. Nothing on the inside. The drivers side kick panel has a sliver of rust at the very bottom where it meets the floor. Nothing bad but its there. Besides that its solid. If you've rebuilt the body of one of these Blazers before, you know there can be rust hidden on the inner structure areas. Nothing you'd see from underneath or the outside. So I don't want to say it's rust free besides. But either way it's as good as it gets for an unrestored original.
The passenger side quarter panel had a dent in the marker light area that needed fixed. That was performed. The paint was blended out and the entire panel clear coated using PPG Deletion products. The color is Hugger orange. The tailgate is almost mint. I believe there is one little ding on the inside of it. Besides that its straight as an arrow.
I took basically the entire truck apart inside and out including door handles, mirrors, grille shell, inner fenders etc. etc. I spent two solid days buffing all of the paint inside and out using a 3 stage 3M buffing system. Afterwards everything was waxed. It shined up real nice as seen in the pictures. There are of course chips, scratches some fading through from sun etc. Its old, but the "patina" as they call it now is way cooler than a fancy new paint job anyday!! I have a few rotisserie restored K5's and they really arnt that much fun.
After countless hours of clearing throughout, I performed the following:
Completely disassembled the original Q jet, soaked it and rebuilt it. replaced fuel tank and sending unit with new. New AC spark plugs, new wires all ran in the original location using all original holders etc. new points, cap rotor, all new belts, air filter oil and filter.
I replaced heater hoses and radiator hoses. I also replaced the heater hose heater with a new one. So if you live somewhere where it gets real cold, like it does here in Montana, you can plug it in if it has to sit outside.
All new antifreeze, new transmission filter, all new fluid, all new full synthetic fluid in the transfer case and front and rear diffs. New AC Delco battery, original battery cables still in place. New fuel pump, new valve cover gaskets.
New brake rotors and pads on the front, repacked wheel bearings, new seals.
All new premium shocks all around.
The engine runs as good as it did in 1972. It starts effortlessly and idles perfect. The choke is dialed in just rite. It couldn't run any better. I spent a lot of time tuning and dialing everything in. It helped that the truck was taken care of and everything was so original and untouched. It still had the original plug wires on it.
I had a local hotrod/exhaust shop replace the original exhaust with an all new aluminized dual exhaust front to back. They used turbo mufflers so its fairly quiet. It sounds really good.
I took all 5 original wheels in and had them sandblasted and powder coated white. Then I had them wrapped with 5 new BF Goodrich All Terrain TO KO2 tires in 33x10.50x15. They look and perform excellent. The original hubcaps were still with the Blazer and were good. I had a set of 4 NOS hubcaps in the GM boxes waiting for a good home. This was definitely where they belonged. The original spare tire carrier is in the back still with original hardeware. Also the original jack is in place where it belongs.
I installed all new ACC molded carpet front to back. The original leveling mats are in excellent shape and are in place. The seats were in great shape and were hardly wore. They were old though and needed attention. I had the local upholstery shop instal new cover on all three seats. The original foam was in excellent shape and needed nothing. All seat mounts perform as they should. The drivers seat slides forward and back and passenger seat latches to the floor easily.
Now a lot of this may not sound like a big deal if you've not worked on or owned old vehicles. It takes a lot of TLC to get everything sorted out and working on these old trucks. I also have a huge parts inventory consisting of NOS parts and excellent used parts that I've acquired over the years. So if there were parts on this truck I thought should be replaced with better examples, I certain did just that.
The console is all original, never broken, repaired, or restored. Carpet strips are all original and excellent. Door panels are original and as good as you'll ever find. Even the passenger arm rest and rear seat arm rests are original and have minor ware. I did replace the drivers side with a new one. The Blazer still had the original windshield in it, it wasn't even cracked but was pitted to where it was hard to see driving into the sun. I changed it out with a new one and a new seal. Every weather strip throughout the truck has been replaced except for the rear hatch glass seal. Some weather strips in the top are new GM. All rubber bumpers are new too. There are lots of NOS parts throughout. All 4 side marker lights, inner grille, parking brake handle, horn button, and other things I can't remember at the moment.
Both bumpers were remarkably straight and damage free, I had those sandblasted and powder coated white.
The top was removed, and everything disassembled. The exterior was redone with new texture and paint. There is and has never been any damage to the top. The inside is original paint and basically perfect. The hatch is in excellent shape, no cracks, repairs, or issues with it. All hardeware is intact and functioning as it should.
I have also reused pretty much all original hardeware on this truck. Theres not a bunch of mismatched screws from home depot on this Blazer.
Some other general descriptions of the truck:
The original steering wheel has no cracks and is beautiful, horn works, heater and defrost work, all light bulbs have been replaced and lights all work. When you open the doors the lights under the dash come on as they should. turn signals all work and cancel, headlights high and low beam work great, wipers work. This is a radio delete and cigarette lighter delete truck.
No speaker holes in the doors or any of that. The gauge needles are still mostly orange. Heater control has never been broken. Looking under the dash is amazing. No holes have been drilled in the bottom of the dash, nothing hacked into the wiring harness anywhere. All decals under the hood are original, nothing has been spray painted, all original engine paint, inner fenders, etc.
I'm sure there are other things iv'e done but am just forgetting. I spent a lot of time and money resurrecting this old Blazer. It's not restored and I am in no way portraying it that way. There is absolutely no Krylon paint on it anywhere. Everything is un restored. I only replaced or rebuilt items that needed serviced. It looks like a truck thats 10 years old, not 47. You don't see many like this left. There are dozens of slapped together wore out Blazers on eBay that are priced double what they are worth. If thats what your looking for, you'll have no problem finding one.
This truck isn't for the guy or gal looking to win best of paint at the car show or anything like that. This is for someone wanting as close to a real Chinese free K5 as they can get. It looks, feels, and drives like again, a 10 year old truck. I built this to keep for a long time, I have 5 other Blazers and not enough room. If it doesn't sell it won't break my heart.
Please only bid on this if you fully intend to own it. Non paying winning bidders will be reported and left negative feedback end of story.
Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping costs associated if thats the route you choose. Im happy to work with your shipper and can recommend a few. If you would like to buy the truck outride that is fine too, most of my vehicles sell before the auction ends. So if you are serious, lets make a deal.
There are no warranties on this vehicle, sold as is where is.
If you have any questions feel more than free to ask. I am happy to take as many pictures or videos as anyone wants. I know it's hard to get a real good idea of what you are looking at off of 24 pictures and a bunch of text. I hope this long description helps.
